Polymer Takedown

Do any of you ever tempt yourselves into taking down the polymer lowers of your Glocks or P99s? I think mine is getting awfully dirty down in the nether regions, but my all thumb approach would not be able to reassemble the pieces.

My USPs haven't gotten dirtier than Gun Scrubber, MPro7, patches & q-tips could handle...I wouldn't worry about it.

You could teach a blind monkey to detail strip a Glock.

Mine may get stripped completely once a year. If I buy a used Glock, I'll detail strip it before I shoot it. Some people just spray lube all over the gun and never clean them, I can't stand that. I like my guns to be clean enough to eat off of. :D

Know nothing of the P-99, sorry. I'm surely all thumbs as well. My gunsmith of the time even made me raise my right hand and swear to never disassemble another firearm as I met him at the door with my 700 in one hand and a plastic bag of parts that used to be inside of it in the other.

Still I regularly completely disassemble my Glocks for a really good cleaning every 500-800 rounds. Just follow the above link, if I can do it anybody can.

May just be me but in addition to a really clean gun it builds my confidense in a weapon when I can totally strip it down and put it back together.

Good Luck!

Glockmeister also has instructions how to completely disassemble your slide! If you do the frame and are brave and curious, go for it!

At an area gun show I met Ben the Glockmiester. I paid him $20 to clean the internals. At the time I had the Glock for 9 years. After he cleaned the internals he said the pistol wasn't that dirty. He also told me to dry clean my Glock. Clean it the same way but don't use cleaning fluid. Basicly wipe the powder off any surface. The cleaning fluid gets into the internals & can't be wiped off. The cleaning fluid attracts powder, lint, & any other dirt. That can cause fouling. Ben showed me how to put grease (TW25B?) on the trigger connector & 1 drop of Glock lube on each slide rail in the rear on the slide. Thats all Ben uses. When Ben cleaned the internals he used no cleaning fluid. Just wiped the parts. I'm not a Glock armor I haven't been trained how to clean the internals. I don't care how simple it is I'm not going to do it.
