Polymer 1911's: BUL or Wilson?

Covert Mission

I looked the the Israeli-made BUL polymer framed 1911 today (their IPSC model). Seems pretty nice. They make the frame (which Kimber uses also) and Kimber supplies the slide. I assume the Kimber version is very similar.

Does anyone have experience with it or the Wilson polymer? I tend to favor one thing about the BUL: it uses their 10 rd mags, but Para-Ord mags (hi-caps) will work with slight modification. The Wilson mags are proprietary. 10 rd mags for both are expensive, but not as much as hi-caps.

This would probably be used mainly for IPSC/IDPA, so for IPSC the higher mag capacity would be nice (the other alternative is a Glock 21).

Either seem like they might be a good duty gun too, for LEO's who can carry SA cocked and locked. Thanks for input.

It is my understanding that the Wilson is FAR superior to the BUL which has had nothing but problems since Springfield Armory was going to import it 7 years ago. I do not know if Wilson is shipping his yet, he introduced in last year, but as of December I had not seen one actually for sale.

Wilson KZ-45 without a doubt.

I retail Wilson Combat and Les Baer Custom. I only say this as a reference. I have sold 4 of the KZ-45's since January 2000 (been on back order for 11 months). From this small sample the customer comments have been good (I have spoke to two of them).

The one comment of note from one customer is due to the polymer frame there seems to be a little more torque.

There only is about 150 of the KZ-45's out there so comments will be slim in the near term.

The other customer experienced some feed malfunctions using a friend's reloaded ammunition. It was an ammo problem. There was not enough crimp and the bullets shook loose from the case. Whoops. So watch crimp and over all length.

The same owner has put several thousand rounds other rounds through it without flaw as he bought it to shoot IDPA and IPSC limited.

We have also had the Israli made BUL in stock. One sells the other doesn't. The customers have spoken and those who have bought the BUL have traded it off for some one reason or another.

Be safe and keep the brass flying
