Being avid reloaders, my son and myself are hung on older bolt actions, Mod 70's, Remingtons. To us, they just seam to be more accurate.

It really pretty much depends on what you plan on doing with this "light" hunting rifle. If you're talking about light, handy and short for tramping thropugh the brush, then zouave is right - the lever is the gun to choose. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a light rifle to take hiking over hill and dale in open country where you might be taking shots at more than 150 or so yards, then you will want something like a Remington Mountain Rifle.

I am partial to lever guns mostly because I like sneaking up on things (and people). :D I don't really need a long range gun other than my M1A.

I use both depending on the circumstances.

Mostly bolt, but if I have to go in the heavy brush I get the Marlin Lever Action.

Two different tools equally useful when used properly.

Yeah, me, too. Both.

I've got a great little Savage 99 in .300 Sav.

My current bolt, a cut down 1903-A3 isn't as light or handy, but the cartridge gives me more versatility.

Ok, heres a change.

Lets say the bolt action is a Winchester Classic.

The lever action is a Browning BLR.

Both are in .30-06

Which would you choose?

Assuming identical accuracy, I chose the lever for one reason. The commonly found side loading gate on a lever makes for a faster tactical reload than an interior box magazine.

I'd take a bolt. With stripper clips, it's faster to reload. Though I own both, I am much faster on second shots with the bolt action, as the lever has too much motion and disturbs my cheek weld. The advantages of the lever action just don't do anything for me personally.
