Politics and CCW - Would you support..?

Was having a debate with a good attorney friend of mine regarding liberals and gun laws. How do you all feel about this hypothetical proposal?

The idea behind it was to come to a compromise: let people buy guns, but make it clear that if they use a gun to kill or injure someone else, the government/police IS going to find out about it, and WILL catch them.

So the proposal was, provided you had a clean record, you could buy and CCW any gun that was equipped to make every round fired from it "traceable" to the user who discharged the firearm. Certainly such a firearm does not exist yet, but perhaps some day (think the judge gun in the film, Judge Dread). It may be considered an invasion of privacy but that's why I'm starting this thread, so see what everything thinks.

So the user of the firearm will have his identity linked to each projectile, right? And how exactly will this happen? Even speaking hypothetically, I don't understand how this would be physically possible.

Seems like a big waste of time that would be better spent calling your congressman and telling him to vote for H.R. 1288 to restore the Second Amendment rights of the residents of the District of Columbia.

No, thanks!!!

No freaking way.

Why not? Technology - any technology - can be circumvented. The DoD (Department of Defense) computer network has been hacked into and compromised. If that is not secure, nothing is - or will be.

Given the proposed technology, some technogeek would figure out how to hack into "Bob's" gun, make it look like "Joe" fired the bullet that was used in a murder and *PRESTO!!* "Joe" gets to go to prison for a murder comitted by "Bob."

Noooooooooo, thanks!!

Are we to assume that criminals would somehow comply with this law? I mean, that's the point, isn't it? They can make all the laws they want but the only people who will comply with them are the upstanding citizens.
I've got a better question: Is this attorney friend of yours an actual liberal or were you having a hypothetical argument without a liberal involved? I live in an area that's evenly split between liberals and conservatives and am friends with alot of both. I have only ever heard one of them say that they'd like to ban guns. This tells me that it's a pretty out-of-the-mainstream topic even for the average liberal.

I think for an answer you can look too the movie(Judge Dredd),that you used as an example.Isn't he framed using doctored video, and the firearm that is supposed to only be able to be fired my him?(its been a long time since i have seen it so correct me if i am wrong.)

This just sounds like a bad idea with great potential for abuse. Besides, I'm having a hard time envisioning how such a system would even be technically possible (sorry - never saw Judge Dread).
