Politicians are Stupid

This is kind of a rant but I wanna hear other gun-owners thoughts. So I don't understand why politicians think they can stop somebody whos crazy enough to kill a bunch of people from getting a gun illegally. Also do they not see shooters go for "gun-free" zones. Because they know there will be no one to challenge them. That's one of the things that pisses me off they want false security, not real security. See we are logical we think like this, how do you protect yourself from a shooter? Get a gun. They think like idiots. How do you protect yourself from a criminal with a gun? Take away your only means of defense and become a sitting duck. Alright, thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

1) Legislative politicians make laws. If they can't show they made laws (of any kind, good or bad) then many voters will say they are ineffective.
2) Elected politicians have to show (or say) they are doing something when an incident occurs. Overreacting is often an effective way of pandering to their non-supporters.
3) Creating "security theater" that is in-effective is often more politically effective than waiting a while to 'do security right'. (re immediate post 911 "security measures")
4) Logic and truth has no place in a crisis if there's political hay to be made.
 
Politicians on the whole are not stupid, they are just willing to back anything
that furthers their agenda and gets them elected. If you try to apply logic to
them you will drive yourself to drink. On the subject of guns there is a double
benifit. The first is the Anti's goal of doing away with 2nd Adm. The second is
blaming guns gives politicians and authorities cover for their foul ups in stopping
Shootings. The Gun is the visible thing to the public and is easy to blame. One
thing is sure, if they ban private ownership and sale of guns a Blackmarket will
spring up overnight. It won't be law abiding citizens buying them either. If you
pay attention to drug busts on TV, they have one thing in common. They have
dope, cash and a lot of guns. These guns are used like cash. Addicts end up
stealing to support their habit. Stolen guns go in same pipeline as drugs. The
bottom line is the politicians know this but it doesn't fit their agenda. The
Anti Gun movement is for the most part knee jerk, feel good for the useful
idiots who vote for these politicians, most of them are stupid.

We badly miss the boat when we put all the blame on politicians and government. We pick the government. It's fashionable to blame politicians for restrictive gun laws. But politicians are interested in getting elected and re-elected.

So what it really comes down to is our neighbors, the people in our communities, the people in our towns, the people we work with, the people we see at the mall, etc. If enough of our neighbors, enough of the people in our communities, enough of the people in our towns, enough of the people we work with, enough of the people we see at the mall, etc., don't like guns, and don't trust the rest of us with guns, are afraid of guns and people with guns, politicians who take anti-gun stands can get elected and re-elected (and bureaucrats who take anti-gun stands can keep their jobs).

So we need to remember that a large part of the battle to keep our guns needs to start with our neighbors, the people in our communities, the people in our towns, the people we work with, the people we see at the mall, etc. There would not be restrictive gun laws if enough of our neighbors, the people in our communities, the people in our towns, the people we work with, the people we see at the mall, etc., did not vote for and support the people who enact those laws.
 
I hate to tell you but that is the whole idea. They know it won't work but should lay the ground work for the next part of their agenda leading to the ultimate disarmament of the general populace. They want to disarm the legal populace so their friends can take over the locals while they take over the country. They want all these actions because with the help of the news media spinning their agenda for the politicians they can "convince" the non-thinking public that not only do they care but that they have the only answer that will work. The unfortunate thing is many don't think and fall for their agenda hook, line and sinker. That is exactly what they count on.
 
Wedge Issues – politicians love wedge issues because they energize the electorate to donate money and more importantly vote. So, they use these issues less to convince the electorate that they are right, but more so that the other side is evil and should never be listened to. So, if the other guy is wrong about guns they must also be wrong about the economy, national defense, immigration, etc.

Whether it is violent crime or the numerous other issues that dived us we all know that reasonable people should be able to reach some type of compromise that actually has a positive impact. However, politicians do not want to lose the wedge issue, so they seldom make meaningful improvements.
 
Some are anti-gun, others just are spineless and care about power, and want to be seen as "doing something."
 
Politicians are often con artist, used car salesman, or they and the people working for them are propagandists. If they are stupid then they are a reflection of the people that voted for them.
