If you spend more than $250 "publishing" political speech online, counting hardware and software used, you must disclose your identity and register with the federal government. If you spend more than $1000, you must file as a Political Action Committee. Thus sayeth the Federal Election Commission.

What (if anything) does it cost to register with the FEC?

What (if anything) does it cost to register as a PAC?

If the cost is reasonable, maybe 2500 or so TFL members should register every time we support another politico - or every time we blast another politico.

To the FEC, and any Government or Government employed person who wishes to control internet content:

BITE ME.

You can not control the collective mind of the world population. Who the hell do you think you are anyway? The internet is GLOBAL BABY! And with Satalite and wireless access to the net - it's UNIVERSAL! It's the last frontier and we have staked claims - YOUR OUT OF THE LOOP! Your barred from landing on our Plymouth Rock.

I may not like all the crap that is published on the net - the porn, the Anarchist Cookbook stuff, the con artists... But hey - this is like in early western town. It is mainly peaceful and clean cut... We have our own ways of dealing with scum. Even if I dont like them - as an Armed member of the Digerati, I will defend it from the outsiders. and then take the site down from the inside. ;)

Who is the FEC to tell me anything. Are they elected, a court of law or just a bunch of self-inflated bureaucrats?

Some of you younger folks really need to take them up on this. I'm an old man and I'm saving myself for the BIG ONE!!!

Three cheers to the ACLU on this one. You have a constitutional right in this country to be a rabble rouser and a political dissident.

and even if they do have the power (but not the legitimate authority) to regulate political speech in such a way, what possible justification for it could there be? Educate me, please.
