Dunno if any of you folk have read the book, or seen the trailers....

Interestingly, the Pee Emm looks startlingly like David Blunkett.

The strapline talks to me on a core level:

"The people should not be afraid of the government. The government shuold be afraid of the people."

And a line from the trailer:

"The time has come for you to live without fear"

Seems like some kind of crazy fever dream to me. What have you lot got?

Its a terriffic comic book, but I have no faith the movie will do anything less that suck tremendously.

It was written by Alan Moore who's done quite a few other ground breaking comic stories, and centers around the story of a man who wears a Guy Fawkes mask and plots to bring down the oppressive government machine.

He meets a woman, and it deals alot with the two of them and his back story and that the people he plots against all feature prominently in his past, and how that furhter more fits into events of major significance to the founding of the country.

It was set in England, and I'm sure the new one will be so as well, but for a book that's well over 20 years old (not sure exactly, too lazy to check), events are at time startingly similar to just what's happening in the Now.

If you're able to handle reading a comic book, do yourself the favour and pick it up. Or, well, anything by Alan Moore. Talented guy and has a knack for working a different kind of story.

gfen, reading Moore's _The Watchmen_ now.

Terrific book. Like much of Moore's work it is a comic only in format.

Actually, given the quality of the cast, I have high hopes. The last few comic based movies (Batman, Sin City) have made great strides to capture the feel of the books without the camp.

In this case, the story is so disturbing and the hero so unheroic, it is hardly a comic book story. It should be an excellent film.

I'd also recommend Moore's "Watchmen" to anyone who liked this story. It is both a send-up of comic book super heroes and a treatise on the abuse of power.
