polishing/ removing finish from bolt

anyone do it? does it help with how smooth the bolt actuates? i got to looking at my marlin .22 tonight and noticed how much of the blue had been removed from years of being used. made me wonder how it would work if i polished it completely bare.

open to opinions
 
Just polishing the blue off bolt really won't help much and it'll increase the chances of rust.

Best to just apply a little grease to it.
