Polishing Chambers...

Do any of you guys have some favoured tricks for increasing an AR's reliability?

(please just explain your technique instead of pontificating about the AR's reliability)

I heard that polishing the chamber can do some good. What else?

Yup. Getting one with a chrome bore. Worked for the US Army.......
Get good magazines. I use USGI almost exclusively. Orlite's and Thermolds are almost as good. Most problems are a result of crappy magazines with bent feed lips.

Buying a preban Colt is a pretty good start. They don't need polishing because they are chrome lined. In some things, you get what you pay for. BTW what makes you think the chamber is causing the reliability problem? Could be magazine, outa spec or reloaded ammo, extractor, gas tube misaligned, etc. etc.

I don't have a specimen in hand that has any specific jamming problem. I am considering purchasing an AR and I intend to have it tweaked in such a way as to increase reliability. There is a vast store house of knowledge about increasing accuracy, but little is said about reliability. Any more ideas?

Shin, I don't have the web address, but I recall that some firm makes an extra strong extractor. It was supposed to make the extraction more robust. But I don't have any details.

I`ve owned four ARs in my life, 3 Colts, and an Armalite, and I dont recall EVER having a malfuntion with any of them. Generally, AR`s are VERY reliable, until you buy one, and see how reliable they really are, dont worry about changing a thing on it! Good luck on your purchase.
