Polishing a stainless finish

Loved the satin finish on my 65 but it did not prove to be very durable :( Thinking about trying a home polish job to get a very shiny finish on all but the top of the barrel. Kind of like the ultimate pythons of years ago.

Anyone done this? and if so any tips appreciated!

Jewelers rouge on a buffer wheel, helps a ton to take the cylinder out. Keep it going in one direction, and don't let it burn. Then hit it with some flitz on your finger. It will come out a lot better than you would believe if shine is what you want.

For durability I would have it sandblasted/beadblasted with a VERY fine media, that will take all the glare out and give the oil something to hold on to. It will also give the satin enough depth to wear for a while.

I have a friend who sat with his S&W 686 and a bottle of Flitz for several nights and when he was done,it looked a lot like my polished stainless Rossi.

I have a M65 S&W that I've shot bunches. I use Flitz or Gunbrite to clean the carbon off and It is definately getting shiny. I suspect that if I worked at it, it would look like a nickeled gun before long.
