Police trade ins

Can you get them at LGS's??? If I get one I'd like to check it out in person before spending a dime.

Depends on your LGS. The one I go to has a lot of police trade ins. Call them up and ask. Most police guns have been carried a lot and shot very little.

It kind of varies, around here they generally have a few at 2 of the brick and morter FFL's. They are generally a pretty good deal all in all, though I will say try to compare prices on them with some of the larger online shops to see if prices are in check.

I have a glock 27 that was a police trade in. It has a lot of wear on the outside, not that it hurts a glock but you can tell it was worn a lot. The inside looks like it's only had a few hundred rounds thru it. The mags are marked le or govt only. Looks like a standard 9rd mag. Not sure why it's marked that.

I have a G17, G22, and a Sig 226 from the trade ins. Carry wear but I'd say less than a couple of 1000 rounds were fired through each.

Hard to tell with a Glock. I had a g26 with about 10k rounds through it that you would have sworn was brand new. Even the barrel had hardly the slightest mark on it, almost nothing. Glocks hide wear better than any gun I have ever seen. That being said, with Glocks being insanely reliable even after shooting thousands and thousands of rounds, a used one at a good price is always going to be a good deal. I actually hate having a new Glock, I dont feel like its broken in until I put at least 5k rounds through it. At that point, they are smooth as butter and work better than a Swiss watch. If you can find a police trade in, in the model you want, I would absolutely go for it.

Like Monster said, sure buy one, let the agency break it in for you......;)

u know a Glock is gonna go bang no matter what the finish looks like.:D

Ther used to be a couple stores in the area (Denver, CO) that carried LEO trade ins, I think that they were listed in the phone book under firearm/police supply stores. They are gone now due to the economy I guess. Dave's guns and police supply was always busy it seemed. They used to carry all kinds of police trades, not just autos. Revolvers, shotguns, and auto's. If not, maybe visit your LGS or range, and mention it to them and see if they can point one out for you.

On a lighter note, you could always get pulled over and ask Johnny Law.......I am sure they will tell you.....

It all depends on your local gun store. One store has a case in the back of the store he uses for police/security trade ins. When I come in that's the first case I look towards, if it's full then they got a new batch in and I head straight for it.

See if there is a cop shop in your area.
I picked up an excellent condition Beretta Centurian for $275.
They had oodles of Glock 22 trade-ins for $300 + Sigs for ~ $400

Picked up an H&K USP.45 sub-compact for $450 +$85 to have it refinished. It's like a brand new gun now. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another police trade-in. As a matter of fact, I can see it becoming a habit. Unfortunately my LGS usually has Glock trade-in and I'm not a huge fan.

I checked my LGS and the owner said "we have used ones for 370" iirc. I guess I'll have to check the ones that are farther away...

Certain pawn shops tend to have lot's of police trade ins. More so than my local gunshops. It's definitely worth a few calls around to see who has what in your area.

Sbowling79 sez, "The mags are marked le or govt only. Looks like a standard 9rd mag."
Probably dates back to the 10 round magazine limit, or is from a state that still has one.

Some gun shops will have them and most won't outright label them as "police trade-in", especially if they don't have any marking. There's a negative connotation to the term to those unfamiliar with the term "police trade-in". A lot of people, even here, will think of 'em as being used a lot. Really. Questions like "Are Police Trade-ins worth it?" come up on a weekly basis.

Secondly, gun shops can get more from them w/o the label. I've seen too many LE-traded 5906 & Glocks going for a good 50% to 80% more that what can be purchased online.

LE Trades are probably the best deals out there in modern handguns. Like many have said - carried a lot, shot little.

I've never seen police trade ins around my neck of the woods. I have 3 S&W's that were LEO guns. Darn things are heavy, but they sure do shoot nice!
I carry a S&W 4006 all the time now.

I've purchased three police trade in guns, one beretta 96 vertex inox, and glock 17, 27. They all are in good condition with the 27 being the exception because it was damn near perfect. Bright night sights and not a mark on or in it. I wouldn't hesitate to but police trades again.
