Hey guys. new to TFL! I recently purchased a police trade in model 10 from buds. Its a 10-10 and i was wondering if anybody would be so kind as to date it for me?? The serial # is bht3xxx. Also ive herd of people being able to identify where (which P.D) there police trade in guns came from. Any idea how anyone? Mines got a sticker on it with vpa01xxx on it and there are numbers that looked post factory ingraved on the arm that the cylinder is mounted. Thanks guys happy shooting

It served with the Victoria police in Australia. I have a 10-5 3" from there. It is my favorite smith and Wesson. Have fun and enjoy. The 10-10 was produced from 1988 to 1997.

BHT prefix use in early 1992 mostly but the three letter codes were not always used to completion and may be used out of sequence making it a bit earlier or later than that. You gota love S&W's serial and numbering systems:eek:.

Police trade-ins are great bargains. For the most part they were carried a lot and fired little. Some external wear or loss of finish is acceptable (IMHO) to get a good, reliable revolver at a low price.

Hard to find these days...But if you can find one for sale...Pending the condition and price. Get it.

I never had a problem, nor issue with my Beretta's or S&W.
