Pointy Sticks

I was thinking of dropping something like $500 on a compound bow with trimmings, but I've heard of a lot of people using long bows these days. I know you can make english longbows and american flatbows, but I'd like to chat with someone who has. Like all kids, when I was a boy I made several sapling bows (whole branch, not split) that probably had draws between 10 and 20 lbs. So I gotta figure it's very do-able to make longbow, or even a recurve, suitable for hunting purposes in my garage. Anyone done this and/or have a set of plans?

Dear Chemist,
Try the laminated fiberglass/maple longbow kit from http://www.binghamprojects.com/features.htm
I started out this way and managed to compleat a working bow the first time.
I later built some more primitive bows in flatbow configuration with mix success but i never regret staring with a project that actually yielded a result. For further reference, paticullary on primitive stuff, please read anything written by Jay Massey.
Good luck with yuor project,
Ursus.
