I bought some 150gr .35 remington at my local shop...I noticed that they were pointed bullets and asked if it was okay to use those in a tube fed 336 marlin..He said sure no prob. ,well not wanting to offend anyone,or me open my mouth and remove all doubt that I'm an idiot I just said O.K. and went on.

I have a 94win 30/30,don't use pointed bullets for the obvious reason, what say you guys??Safe or Sorry.

Hey VTR,

I agree with Big. There is just no good reason to use spitzer bullets in any tube magazine. It is taking too much of a chance. Use the round nose bullets. If your point of aim is the same for a given distance, you could chamber a pointed round and then put round bullets in the magazine, but it hardly seems worth the effort. In any case, stay safe; use round nose bullets.

Best wishes,

Poodle Shooter has it right. If you're deer hunting...two will do the trick. I load 165gr. pointed, boat tail for my Win. 30-30. Can't imagine needing more than two. Remember the old saying..."one shot...got him...two shots...maybe not!" Good hunting!

While you guys hit the subject, I finally got try out and sight in my Win 94 30-30 the other day (Wal-Mart finally put 30-30 ammo on sale).

I tried loading a round when I had one chambered and it wouldn't go. The cover plate wouldn't pivot back to allow one in. Was I just not trying hard enough?

It's a Winchester Model 94 30-30, manufacture date 1975.

I think it's generally a bad policy to use ammo that could make your rifle explode, especially if you don't hunt alone and someone else may pick up your gun. It's an extra thing to remember, and pointed bullets aren't necessary in that caliber. I would have a word with the owner of that gun shop; that kind of dumb advice will get them sued if someone is hurt.

SORRY!

I wouldn't use pointed ammo in a tube mag if it was free.
