Pocket Holster Question

Im going to pick up a .380 for pocket carry (either a Taurus 738 TCP or a Ruger LCP). The gun will be carried mostly when I am wearing loose fitting jeans or cargo shorts. I have two questions for you guys:

1. With regards to a holster, do you recommend the Desantis type (sticky nylon material) or a leather pocket holster and for what reasons?

2. Does anyone have an opinion regarding a "wallet" holster and are they comfortable, preferred over a pocket holster, etc.

I carry a S&W 642 in a DeSantis pocket holster while riding motorcycles. I can draw the revolver without the holster coming out of the jacket pocket, which works for me.

Your mileage may vary...

I used Desantis for years, but recently I ordered and received a Blackbird leather holster from Pocket Concealment Systems. Compared to the Desantis it's thinner, stays in the pocket better and seems to offer a quicker and smoother draw. I used to be very happy with the Desantis, but now I don't think I could ever go back to it.

Do the wallet holsters allow you to sit down or drive your car and not be overly uncomfortable? Does it just feel like your normal wallet in your back pocket?

I carry my LCP in an Uncle Mike's inside the pocket holster (like the desantis). It works very well for me. I have not tried a leather one, but the cheap uncle mike's works perfect for in the pocket.

I've used a DeSantis for years for my Kahr PM9, recently got a leather pocket holster from Mika which I now use more often ... Also have a Nemesis for my Smith j-frame ... they work great, inexpensive, very good at concealment ...

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these suggestions. I tried a leather holster when I first got my LCP and it always 'came out with the gun'. I now use either a Nemesis or a FIST kydex pocket holster in the front pocket. Both work well but the kydex holster tends to stay in the pocket better during the draw due to it's design but it is much wider so it can sometimes print in Dockers, etc.

I don't want to sit on the gun and don't want to switch it back-and-forth from front to back pockets when getting out of the car, etc. so it's front pocket carry for me all the time. I've never even tried a wallet holster for this reason.

You just have to realize that getting it out of the front pocket is going to be more difficult sometimes and plan accordingly.

I like leather for my Mustang, PPK/S, and J frame The uncle mike type ok for the KelTec size But I have thought about going leather for it

the wallet holster works okay. I used to carry an NAA Guardian 380 in one built by Graham Leatherworks.

After a while the "cover" lets it kind of print a little. Sitting on a gun is not the most comfortable thing in the world but not bad. I chose the rugged Guardian since I figured that it could stand my weight.

After experimenting with lots of carry modes, I eventually realized that belt carry is the most comfortable and I now carry a Colt DS or Kahr PM9 on a high ride belt holster under an untucked shirt. The PM9 sometimes in a pocket holster if wearing cargo shorts. If the pocket is too big the gun WILL rotate on you. Be careful.

I carry my P3AT in a Uncle Mike's #1 pocket holster.
