pocket carry w/Airweight?

Hey everyone, here's my situation. I play alot live poker about 3 times per week. In general, I cash out about $500-800 per trip to the table. I play in several different bars and one casino in town. There has been a general rise in muggings and assault in the town I live in. I can't really afford to give up playing poker, but it makes me nervous that I am leaving a bar into a dark parking lot at 4 a.m. with a large load of cash in my pocket. I check the area very carefully before I walk away from the door to my car, but it is hard to check around corners for someone who may be waiting to jump me. I have considered by a S&W .38spl Airweight 2" barrel revolver to carry in my pocket when I leave. I am just curious how easy it is to conceal a small revolver with a pocket holster in a pair of jeans. Any info or holster types would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help

I have found...

the best way to carry a revolver of this type (I have a S&W 642) is using a pocket holster (there a bunch of makers) in a pair of relaxed fit docker type pants. The pocket is nearly parallel to the seam, making access easy. You could pull it off in relaxed fit jeans, but the pocket is closer to parallel with the waist making access harder. The key to not printing is: 1) pocket holster, 2) a relaxed (baggy) pants leg, and 3) the smallest grip possible. The smaller grip stinks for practice...harder on your hand...but the overall smaller "package" makes it more likely that you will carry it.

The 340PD

i just got the S&W 340PD on sun. & today i just shot it for the first time. i was considering the 642 but i just wanted the lightest gun i could find in a 38 or bigger.the recoil isn't bad at all, it just kick's straight back hurt little bit in the palm, i'll see how 357's feel this weekend. i think that either gun (340, or 642) is a nice choice for concealment. Anyhow; I have a cheap nylon "Uncle Mike's IWB sidekick, size 36" for 10 bucks. feels OK, gets the job done, & cant see it when im carrying cause its bout an inch thick which i had to losen my belt one notch. but i just dont care for IWB i want maybe shoulder or ankle.

hey i play poker too but not the stakes your playing for. if i walk with $200 im happy in a 3-6 game. an auto may conceal a little better for you if you wish to front pocket carry in jeans. my reccomendation is the kahr pm9 or the 40. its pretty flat only .900" and i can conceal it easily in my front pocket jeans.

Ummm.

Normally, I'd say that for blue jeans, I would just carry as little as possible in that pocket except the gun to prevent a bulge (therefore a holster really isn't necessary). HOWEVER, I don't know what the law is in your state but in mine and I think most others YOU CAN GET INTO A LOT OF TROUBLE FOR PACKING A GUN INSIDE ANY PLACE THAT SELLS MORE THAN 51% ALCOHOL EVEN IF YOU HAVE A CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE. Obviously this applys to bars. That was one of the biggest laws they stressed in my CHL course. I understand your desire to protect yourself, but be careful. Carry a gun illegally to protect yourself you deminish the chances of being punished by criminals but then put up the risk of being punished by the law. It's unfortunate but it's the way it is. Take care.
