NY Poacher

A friend sent me this picture with the following explanation:

This deer was was confiscated by DEC yesterday morning on rt 43 (i think in Stephentown from the direction he was traveling) it was shot at 2:30am a neighbor heard the shot and turned him in. When DEC got there he had it half butchered. They also found pictures on his phone of a dead moose, bear and a bird of prey. Check out the split brow tines. The pic was taken in Cumberland Farms parking lot in Sand Lake NY

I hope the DEC is not driving around with a deer head on their bumper. I would assume that it is their truck since the pick was taken in day light and not at the 2:30 in the morning when the animal was supposed to have been killed.

Yes, it is straped to the back of the DEC truck on it way back from the poachers house, to there lab at 5 rivers. The officer stopped for coffee

Ya that sucks man! I hunt my old -ss off, for years and I have yet to kill a ten-pointer, and these sons of crappers steal one from me and you.

+1 at Art

I agree. Anything they use to commit the crime should be taken.....Truck, lights, guns and anything else they have. Then they should face a fine. Sell off all the stuff that they had and put that money back into conservation.

Nothing like taking the family for a bit to eat and staring at a dead deer.

Any good reason why they could not put it in the back of the truck or something. I think it is just bad taste to display an animal like that.

So long as it is only forfeited after being found guilty. Not comfortable with forfeiture on accusation like one sees in the drug war.

Hey grubby, you're not saying that the sight of that carcass would kill the appitite are ya!! Heck I'd probably have to drag my kids away from it, because they dig the deer man!!:D And Crosshair, you know that Art means AFTER they are found guilty..;) Maybe they should kick up the penalty, and why the hell not? Me and minde can easily follow the game laws, so can everybody else.

I just heard about another kind of 'poacher' . Ever brought your deer to someone to butcher and get back just a small amout or spoiled deer ? Well there's a guy in central NY who's now in the slammer after making a practice of that !!!:D

Talk about stupid. Like nobody was ever going to notice and turn him in.

Around here they strap it to the hood of the truck and parade it around town for awhile stopping at every convenience store they come to. If it's cold enough that is.:D

We had a butcher in PA that got closed down. No more butchering deer for them....EVER. Turns out the grandson's of the people that owned it (family run and operated) had 2 buck in the cooler hanging, NO TAGS. The PA Game commision likes to do suprise checks. Glad they do. That was probably about 15 years ago. Like I said though, no more butchering for them.

My last post where I agreed with Art, yeah I am tlaking about after conviction. Of course they can argue it but if the Game Warden sees you shooting at a deer or anything else out of season they are taking your stuff. They should be able to take everything, gun, car and anything else and hold it until the case is over.
If you don't want to do the time don't do the crime.

Man, I hate poachers.

I can perhaps understand a guy who is desperate and has kids to feed.

But the most frequent poacher reports I see are mostly guys who are taking trophies illegally.

I agree that convicted poachers should be looking at confiscation, fines, and time.

and if that's the case just set up some rabbit traps. Nobody cares how many you kill and the meat is decent. Do a bit of basic scouting and trial and error and you'll have plenty of meat.

It does not bother me to see a dead deer but it may bother some one in the 86% or so of the population that is not anti hunter yet. I am all for being exactly who you are and making no bones about it. But as a hunting population we are in the minority at about 7% of the population. I think it is in our best interest to keep the non hunting population who is neutral in mind when me make choices that place us squarely in public view. I know that not every one agrees with me but in my opinion the game wardens should know better than to parade a poached animal around like that. To me that is the wrong kind of publicity for the hunting community.

Re "display": Forty/fifty years ago and back beyond, there were not nearly as many deer as there are today. It was darned near a required thing to carry a buck home in a display setup. It was not until the late 1960s and 1970s that so many people started making mouth music about the evils of killing Bambi.

Just part of the wimpification of our society, as far as I'm concerned. The "circle of life" was mentioned in another thread here. Yup. Way too many people have broken that circle...

I couldn't of said that any better if I was Art Eatman myself!!!;) Grubbs, chill man, there are better battles to fight not this one not now.:) Ask yourself, self why would a gamewarden be traveling around with a deer on his accessorie gate???????:rolleyes:It's to send a message to everyone that it was confiscated from a laqw-breaker!!!;)(and maybe he had too much gear in the back of his truck!!!) Do you understand??? How do you keep a lawbreaker out of your backyard???? Hang one in your frontyard!!!!!:D
