PMC vs. Federal Eagles; Steyr M40

At the range, I try everything. With Federal, a little more sleep, I can get almost 2" clusters. Bought 2 boxes of PMC the other day, (it was on sale) and it was shooting horrible! Like 4" groups to 5" groups. I even shot from benchrest just to see if it's me, but it's not.

I understand some guns are "happier" with certain ammo, but this is a huge difference! I'm shooting twice as good standing with federal than with PMC shooting from benchrest.!

Anybody else have this experience?

Not with those particular rounds, but with Remington UMC, my Steyr sometimes won't ignite the primer, because of the hard primer and the soft striker hit. It also shoots the UMC ammo terribly. I think maybe the hotter the ammo is the worse the Steyr shoots it, because of the loose riflings, but that's a bad guess at best. :(

I'm not sure why, but the last time I shot American Eagle 9mm, I had a terrible time getting all the metal fouling out of the bore.

I had to work about 5 times longer than when I shoot Blaser, UMC or Winchester USA.

Actually, I shot 3 boxes of American Eagle and about 20 rounds of UMC. Normally, I would shoot at least 4-5 boxes, but it was 100 degrees that day.

So, even shooting less, cleanup was a lot worse...

I can't see any reason to shoot the American Eagle these days anyway, when you can buy Blaser from Walmart for 5.86 a box or from Natchez Shooters Supply for $4.80 a box.
