I just picked some of this up at the local store the other day and was wondering if any of you guys have some experience with this round and if its any good for a home defense round?

I saw some the other day on the shelf and thought about it. I wanted to try something new but went with the Winchester supreme .9mm +P.

The PMC Starfire Gold is actually the precursor to Federal's HST. The same inventor (Tom Burczynski) designed both of these rounds. Tom left PMC over a dispute with PMC for not loading the Starfire to the velocities called for in his design. (~100fps below optimum)

Federal's HST does have a technology advantage over PMC's Starfire Gold, in that it does not clog as easily and is much better at weight retention.

I would not feel undergunned if I carried PMC Starfire Golds.

Do not confuse the PMC Starfire Gold series with their more pedestrian Bronze series... These are way different animals.

PMC Starfire

Years ago when I was looking for non +P 9mm ammo for my Browning Hi Power I settled on PMC Starfire since they seemed to expand in any test medium that I shot them into.
