Plugging a mossberg 590

If I wanted to use a mossberg 590 for deer, could I plug the magazine (It would jsut take a REALLY long plug :))

Sure you can.

Just go down to the hardware store and buy a long wooden dowel rod that will allow the magazine spring to slip over the dowel easily.

Cut the dowel so that the gun will take as many rounds in the magazine that's legal and NO MORE.

Use sandpaper to round off the ends of the dowel to prevent the spring from catching on sharp ends.

Drop the dowel into the spring and assemble the gun.

This is exactly how sporting guns are blocked for use on Federally regulated ducks and geese.

Why would you want to plug the 590 when hunting deer? Does the state you live in require rifles to be plugged also? The 3 shell limit for shotguns, only applies to small game in my state. You can fill 'em right up for large game, however you can't use autoloaders for deer, only manually operated guns. You can use semiautomatic shotguns for small game, but then you do need a plug.

Honestly, you might want to go down to your local gun store and see how friendly they are. My 500 came plugged from the factory with the proper length dowel and rubber rings to keep it centered. I don't know the likelihood of them letting you break one down and taking the rod, but they would probably be more receptive if you plopped some ammo down on the counter as well.
