Plug for CCW friendly vacation spot

I couldn't figure out what forum this should go in but I see other CCW threads in this one... so here goes.

I just got back from a week at Myrtle Beach, SC and I have to put in a plug for them as a CCW-friendly destination. I don't want to mention any specific businesses but I did not see a single "NO CONCEALED WEAPONS" sign during the entire week we were there. We stayed at a nice resort (not overly expensive or pretentious, but nice), ate at many restaurants and went to two movie theaters, two mini-golf places, two amusement parks and more shops than I care to recall.

The only place that I can recall seeing a sign last year was at the Ripley's Aquarium and we didn't go back this year.

SC, in general, is pretty CCW friendly. We have reciprocity with several other states (though not as many as I would like) and decent laws about where you can and can't carry. Businesses that wish to ban CCW must put up very specific signage and most who have signs fail to get it correct.

We still have a long way to go but at least we have the freedoms that we have.

Let me end by saying that I have absolutely no financial interest in anything even remotely related to Myrtle Beach and I never plug places like this but I came away very impressed. It's true that Myrtle Beach can be commercial, loud, trashy and touristy or it can be as nice as you are willing to make it. There are two state parks with uncrowded beaches and pristine lowcountry scenery as well as many upscale resorts and more golf opportunities than you can shake a stick at.

PM me if you want specifics.

Unfortunately...

... SC does NOT have reciprocity with GA, their next door neighbor. This frustrates me no end, as I currently spend a lot of time travelling between GA (home) and NC (where we do have reciprocity). Gun(s) locked in truck vault for SC portion.

Not only that, but SC seems to have a ban on carrying knives with blades over 2". My folders also end up in truck vault.

Sheesh...

South Carolina does not ahve reciprocity with Florida either. I disassembled my gun and stored it in the trunk when I had to drive through. Florida has very liberal gun laws, though open carry is prohibited (not that I care for it). I think Vermont has the most liberal gun laws in the US. I'm not sure if they only apply to residents though.

SC and their lack of reciprocity STINKS! Another –1 from a Floridian.

Florida is very CCW friendly, if you want beaches and or fishing we got lots of that. If history is your thing check our St. Augustine.

I'm not sure where you're getting that SC and FL don't share reciprocity. They do for resident permits. SC doesn't honor non-resident permits from any state (I never said we were perfect).

The official South Carolina law enforcement division website:
http://www.sled.sc.gov/Reciprocity1.aspx?MenuID=CWP

And the official FL Concealed Carry Reciprocity page:
http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html

Clearly show that SC and FL do have reciprocity.

Not having reciprocity with GA and AL is a PITA for me since I travel that way all the time. That's why I've got SC resident and FL non-resident permits. :D

FL was added to SC recipriocity a little while back, thank goodness since Destin is my favorite vacation spot

Mleake, as to GA, it is frustrating as I spend a good deal of time in the atlanta area. I fixed the problem for $20 by applying for a New Hampshire out of state pistol permit. Both SC and GA recognize this permit as well as gaining a handful of other states.

It stinks to have to go about it that way, but it works.

NH out of state in SC?

It was my understanding that SC doesn't recognize any state's out of state permits. My FL out of state is useless in SC.

I know an accountant named "Anderson", who lives in Anderson, SC! :) I'm sure most, if not all of you know that a firearms license isn't required for one to carry a loaded handgun in one's vehicle in GA.

My FL out of state is useless in SC.
You are quite correct.

Jclayto would not be covered in SC by a NH non-resident permit on two counts. Count #1, SC only honors resident permits and Count #2, NH is not listed as having reciprocity with SC on the SLED website referenced above.

Thanks for the update. I haven't checked in a while. They must have added it somewhat recently. Other than our very liberal weapons laws, Florida has a lot to offer for vacation spots. We plenty of theme parks for the kiddies (though I'm not sure what their CCW policies are), plenty of beaches and fishing as well. If you are into wildlife, we have the Eveglades. Since it is a national park, firearms are a no-no. All in all, lots to do here.

your right guys, my mistake. I have a SC resident permit and a NH permit to allow me to carry in GA. I had a brain fart when posting this. Sorry

lockedCJ7 - my bad. I guess it was 2 maybe going on 3 years ago, on vacation, SC did not have reciprocity with FL, haven't checked or been there since.

Check out hangun laws .us and there is a list there that tells who honers who . For SC ,it will honor a pile of states. AK,ar,az,fl,ks,ky,la,mi,mo,nc,oh,tx,tn,va,wv,wy. But come on up to North Carolina and heck with Myrtle Beach anyhow. I ride and they are big time down on Motorcycles.
