please tell me more about my "new" shotgun.
I bought it to shoot, but I would like
to know more about it.


I bought an over/under in great condition.
20 gauge, double trigger, 28 inch barrels, blue, wood stock.
checkering on forend(sp?) and grip.
markings on barrel, left side:
"Ranger Over and Under"
"-20 GAUGE MODEL 103-12-"

four digit serial number on bottom of
receiver in front of triggerguard
the letter "R" above the serial number

forend is held on with with two screws.

gun has a Sears recoil pad.

barrels are not separated.
top barrel has knurling down its entire length.
thumb operated safety.
top mounted lever to open the action
extractors
no engraving on receiver
brass bead

I can't find Sears number 103.12 in either conversion table I have. Marlin made an O/U called the Model 90, and I remember them being sold by Sears; that gun is listed as 103.350 and 103.360. Maybe Sears service(?) department could help. (Question mark is due to recent experience with same.) If it is the Marlin, it is a solid and reliable gun, but rather clumsy for an O/U.

Sears also sold a couple of import O/U's. See if there are any proof-marks, under the barrels or on the receiver, or markings which might indicate whether it was made in the U.S. or another country. Absence of foreign marks would mean U.S. manufacture. A "JM" proof would indicate Marlin.

it has the "JM" mark. sounds like it's
a Marlin. I don't think it's clumsy,
unless you mean the long barrels.

It's in great shape, and I plan on taking
it after squirrels and maybe quail, depending
on how it patterns.

I am very happy with it, and I'm glad it's
a Marlin. I own a couple of their lever
rifles.

I paid $275 for it. I think I got a great
gun for that price.

it was made ?

My MIL has this shotgun, just got it from her father, it fits this description perfectly, what's the estimated value on this shotgun?
