The 725 was introduced in 1958 and was in production only 4 years before it was replaced by the 700 in 1962. Only 18,000 were made, making it a scarce gun and one much desired by Remington collectors, if in original condition. The safety looks like that of the M1917 Enfield and the older Remington rifles made from surplus receivers; it was either liked or hated.
The 725 was intended to compete with the [pre-'64] Winchester 70, but ended up costing more than the Winchester ($134 vs. $129), so sales were not spectacular. It was, as far as I could tell, a well made and accurate rifle.
