Please talk me out of this 30-06!!!

I have a perfectly good hunting bow, a perfectly good Marlin 30-30, a perfectly good 6.5x55 Swede, and a perfectly good 7x57 Mauser.

I have reloading dies to keep my mind occupied...

All I really hunt is white tailed deer...

Ain't seen a coyote or a bear in the Virginia woods yet...

Ain't seen any elk or moose or caribou either...

Can't get a kitchen pass to head north where the bigger critters live...

So why the heck do I want a 30-06?????????????????

HELP!!! HELP!!!

I figure you sane riflemen on TFL can talk me out of this madness.

After all, I am sure that each of you chose your favorite rifle and sold all the rest... to keep life simple and pleasurable... right?

Sorry can't help you with this mission. I just keep adding to the "collection". Most recently a Springfield M1A with a nice laminate stock. :D

Virginia does have an elk season and there are black bear out there. In my neighborhood for sure, although we aren't allowed to hunt them in this county.

So what 06 you looking to purchase? Tell us so we can help you justify the purchase. :D
 
You can never have too many firearms. Go out and buy, buy, buy!!!!

Sorry, but I don't think you'll find many people trying to talk you out of buying more firearms.

30.06 is a classic he man caliber

my first rifle was a 30.06 ruger 77

i still have it and it has dropped deer after traveling thru a 3 inch sapling

Think of it as a 7.62mm to round out your line. Of course, then you need an 8mm and a 6mm. Another way to think of a good .30-06 is that there's no finer weapon made for defense of self, family, and country--and all of them need defense, likely sooner than later. OH WAIT-- I was supposed to talk you OUT of this?? Wrong thread.

Well here goes.......30-06 isn't gonna put down a mad Bull Prairie dog like what I am gonna suggest....

Buy a Savage .300 Win Mag and forget the 30-06...it takes a cannon to safely take Bull Prairie dogs

Oh, I forgot.....I nailed two charging mad Bull Jackalope's as well.
Those are indeed a fearsome beast, Teeth for noughing though bone, horns for goring prey and fast as all get out.
 
Dogger what kind of Swede are you shooting? I'm going the other way 30-06 to 6.5. goodluck PS YOU ALWAYS NEED A 30-06 ,wakes the neighbors up.:)
 
I asked myself that question a year ago. I'm still asking myself that question..... but now that I have a Rem BDL '06 in the gun case the question doesn't torment me as much. :)

Someday I would like to justify buying a .375 H&H - Hmmm an escaped circus elephant rampaging down my street terrorizing the children maybe???

Dogger. I can only repeat what the late great Col. Townsend Whelen once said. "The 30-06 is never a mistake." Nuff said?

If I were inclined to reduce my collection, the 30-06 would be the LAST to go!!!!! It is hands down the most versitile rifle caliber in North America!!!
