Please recommend a rangefinder

I'd like to get better at estimating distances for rifle shooting and having a rangefinder would enable me to do so. Suggestion sof specific models and places where to buy them would be helpful.

Oleg, I have been using a Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 for several years and I like it. Any decent rangefinder will help you get your eyeball rangefinder together:D
I have lazed targets side by side with other folks using their lazer rangefinders and the readouts are always close. Problems will occur if the background behind your target are highly reflective ie trying to range a hunk of wood on a sandbar at 800 yds.
My wife gave me mine for a birthday present!

The longer range the better.

I have a Bushnel Yardage Pro 600. I wish I would have got the 800 or the 1000. The reason why is that it ranges out to 300-400 yards no problem. After that, you need to have optimal conditions to get on out further. I have ranged items out to 850 yards with it, but that was on a large juniper bush in the shade of the setting sun. When you range in the middle of the day on a bright target, good luck! In the fading light or shade it works much better.

The thing I would have liked about the 800 yard model is that it is a higher magnification. The 600 only has a 4x zoom.

I have used a Nikon, Tasco and Leica. Although the Leica doesn't have any bells and whistles (e.g., no "rain", "reflective", etc. settings), it is very small, has extremely clear optics and gives a reading at long ranges better than the others I have used. You can get a decent price on it at SWFA or Bear Basin, among others.

I prefer the Leica. I tried a Bushnell 400 which should have been called the 200 model as that was as far as it would reliably range. The Leica Geovid is the best unit as well as being an excellent pair of binoculars. Of course the $3000 price tag as well as weight and bulk are the downsides. I mainly use mine when shooting prarie dogs since they are not carried very far. I recently purchased the Leica 800 and have been very pleased with it's performance. I would rate it as the current best buy. It is also very compact and light weight.

Bushie 1000

Oleg, I had one of the NEW version Leica 800's............
I kept it for about 2 weeks, and it worked VERY well.
It would consistently range to 800 yards, plus or minus 50 yards,,,,,,,
The only thing I didn't care for, was the compactness of the model(which attracted me to it), was a problem.
You have to have nerves of steel, and a relly steady rest to laze with it, no shakes, tremors......
I had the vendor send me a Bushie 1000.
Did a side by side, for several days.........
The Leica would light up and read ourt in RED....a/ok at night.
The Bushie, would not read out and illuminate, but it will range to 1200 yards,............
And it also will range in near total darkness out to a 1000 yards.
To read the LED, laze, and point at a light source, moon, street light,, etc.
I prefered the ranging ability over the night ability.....I mean, for under $350.00, the ability to range out to 1200 yards is nearly in Geovid country.
At $3K.............
So, my .02's..............fwiw
