Moo.

For a range holster (casual I'm assuming, not competition?) I'd simply buy a Fobus paddle holster. Easy on, easy off, easy to position. They cost between $20-30 and will last a LONG time.

TESTING FOBUS NOW

So far, very good. Excellent retention, 'fast' enough, inexpensive, and seems durable.
But it's not cow........

Try Graham's Custom Leather. The 4x is a good range and good carry holster with the right covering garment. Good quality, fast presentation. Doesn't hold the gun as close to the body as an FBI cant pankake (FIST is my favorite for that, Graham makes 'em too), which makes it very fast to aquire a firing grip, but you need informal (unbottoned sport coat, jacket, or shirt) attire to conceal.

I've bought several and am pleased. The 4 (non - X version) is even less at $30, but looks like it would be a poor choice for concealment.

Just for the range and nothing fancy?...Fobus holsters are a good choice. You can't beat them for $20 to $25 dollars.

Umm, if he's talking about a USP 45 fullsize, I don't believe Fobus currently has a model to fit. 9/40 Compact are the only ones I've seen. Read the package carefully before you buy (or you'll have one great excuse to go buy another HK! :) :) )

Fobus does not make a holster for the HK USP F/S.

Fobus holsters are not that great anyway.

The best all around (non-leather) holster is the Blade-Tech
side belt holster hands down.
It works great for IDPA etc.

The CR-Speed holster works even better but it is more of an IPSC "hanger" than a "real-world holster."
(It still is faster than Blade-Tech and retains it just as well).

I have a box full of holsters for my USP .45 F/S but Blade-Tech would be my 1st choice over all when it comes to the best all holster.

I use my HK .45 in competition and that really tests ones holster.

I wasn't aware that Fobus didn't make a holster for the full sized .45.

I agree that the Blade tech are better holsters, but he didn't state he was looking for the "best". He simply stated he needed a range holster.

Given that Fobus doesn't make one for the .45 full size, I'd get a Bianchi Accumold.

As a followup... When I got my USP45F, I quickly found that not everyone makes holsters for it. You'd be surprised -- a lot of the big names don't service it, and those that do only offer limited holster models to fit it. For example, Galco only has 2 or 3 to fit it. I'll second Blade-Tech as a great company. My holster for the 45F is the Desantis Tbreak scabbard. Just make sure a company specifies that a model will fit specifically the 45F -- lots of them make holsters for every USP model BUT that one :). That said, the Desantis is pretty decent for what it is. Seems to wear the HE finish quickly though.

Just a note HE finish on HK's is under the black exterior coating.

It is right up against the metal even if the black is gone the HE is still there protecting your weapon. If hkpro boards were up I'd give you the link that explains this. Someone had their usp slide done in Armor-Tuff OD green and the HE was underneath.

ENC,
It sounds like you're talking about a process similar to Glock's Tennifer process (i.e. a colorless "treatment" to the metal finished with a parkerized / oxide black finish over it). I was under the impression that the "Hostile Environment" finish was just that -- similar to Sig's K-kote or Nitron or Beretta's Inox. I haven't researched it, though, so I'll take your word for it :) Thanks for the info.

bladetech

A buddy liked the bladetech IWB kydex I had for my gun so he got one for his full size USP 45. I thought he was crazy since it's such a large gun...

But we took turns trying out each other's holsters (that sounds funny) and I had no problems with it and I'm 5'9" 133ish lbs.

The FOBUS paddle is more comfortable than the Blade-Tech but it rides lower, more of a chance of printing. The Blade-Tech locks on like an alligator, you gotta TAKE your pants off to remove the dang thing, it rides TOO high and lets the gun lean outward. Not comfortable. Hrmph. I have one of Wild Bill's Pancakes with the leather paddle on order, when it gets here I will let you all know what I think.

HK's Hostile Environment Finish

This is way over rated. My USP rusted after a night out in modest fog. Yes it did wipe off but it was disappointing. I've had 5 Glocks and haven't had one rust yet even after so much sweat in the summer...

I am pretty sure the Fobus 45c holster will fit the 45f pistol. The only difference is the length of the barrel the 45c holster will cover. A friend of mine bought a 40c holster for his 40f and it fits like a champ. The only thing is about 1/2 of an inch of the barrel sticks out below the end of the holster. If you can, find a place that has them in stock and try your gun in the compact holster, im sure it will fit fine.

I have a Fobus for my G30 and G23. My friend has one for his USP45f and another friend has several for his Sigs and Beretta.

They are a great holster, hid well with just a button down shirt,(no printing) easy on, easy off and very good retention along with quick presentation.

Dakota Kid,

I gotta tell you, your wrong on this one. If Fobus doesn't make holsters for the USP 45 fullsize, then somebody needs to tell me and Fobus and all the wholesalers that have them in their catalogs. I am a LEO, IPSC Master class shooter and FFL dealer and can tell you I have sold dozens of Fobus paddle and belt holsters for the USP's, fullsize and Compact.

Oleg Volk and Weshoot2,

It depends on what you want to spend for a holster. Holster prices are getting a little ridiculous, this is why the Fobus is taking off. I'll be the first to admit that I like the Blade Tech quality better than the Fobus, IN THE BELT HOLSTER, NOT THE PADDLE. I don't like the Blade Tech paddle. The clip is too small and the gun sits too high and wobbles all over the place when loaded and is way too top heavy. It is not that secure. The Blade Tech belt is a good holster. But remember, everyone, the Blade Tech is double the price of a Fobus and sometimes even more than double the price. Also, if there are no Blade Tech models in stock to fit your gun, it takes 4-8 weeks to make/get one. Never had this problem with Fobus.

Now with the new Roto Lock design Fobus has, this pretty much took care of about the only draw back most people had with them. The Roto Lock holsters allow you to adjust the angle/cant in a 360 degree pattern and any way you want. GREAT IMPROVEMENT. The Fobus paddle design is the best on the market right now. It is easy in the pants, easy out when you want it out, light, easy, fast draws with slight retention from the mold injected design. The paddle is pretty good and the belt holsters are pretty good also.

It depends on what type of holster Oleg Volk was looking for (carry, competition, or just range use, etc.). If it is for carry, just range use, or even some IDPA matches, the Fobus will work as good as any other on the market right now and is half the price of the others out there.

Take it from someone who carries a duty gun for a living and has carried it off duty for 11 years and is a Master class IPSC shooter, the Fobus is a very good holster at a great price. The Ofc's at my PD that I instruct carry them everywhere.

DakotaKid,
I remember talking with you on HKPro boards. You had stated you shot your Mark 23. If that is the HK your referring to, no, Fobus does not make one for that, but for the standard 45 fullsize, they do.
