Hello, i have recently aquired a S&W 38 special from my uncle. He has no info on it. The side of the barrel says "38 special ctg" it is a revolver. the serial # is D504xxx. i was wondering what year it was manufactured and what model it is. any information would be greatly appreciated thank you.

That serial number was used in 1972-1973. If you open the cylinder, on the frame there should be a model number. it should look like this, M-10, or 12, 13, 14 or 45. If it reads M10 than it is a Model 10. and so on and so on.

Wasn't the (M) 45 a .22 lr?
