Hello Everyone.

I'm brand new to the site, but have been a gun enthusiast for years.I recently attended an auction here in Austin about a week ago.I purchased a lot older rifle stock & have had success identifying them all with exception to this one in the photos.I have looked over the entire stock & have not been able to find any identifying marks at all.The stock is right at 30 1/2" in total length.Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.Thank ya'll in advance & have a great day.

It does look like a Mauser military stock that has been sporterized and refinished. A picture of the action inletting (the other side from pic 3) would help.

New Action Inletting Photo.

Thanks for all the help guys. Here is a photo of the other side

It is a Mauser.
This is one I am sporterizing.

Oh, OK.
Yes, there are lugs on a 98 stock for holding the trigger guard and magazine in place.
It looks like one on the rear of the stock in his picture. The front one may have been removed.

No, I meant lungs. Think of a pill (long, cylindrical and rounded at the ends) that has been quartered. One quarter on each side around where the Mauser 98 trigger group goes.

I think it is an Enfield, as I noticed the metal lug in the side of the wood, at the bolt handle, and the wood is shaped wrong at the bolt handle relief for a Mauser. A Mauser has a rectangular relief cut out around the bolt knob, towards the stocks bottom, and only has the one recoil lug at the front. If I remember, the relief cut was so one could grab the bolt knob easily with gloves.

There's a good photo of a Mauser 98 at the link below. Click on the photo to enlarge it.

I don't think all, or older versions, had that relief cut at the knob, where the wood was thinner in section at that point in the stock.
