But why was is the Elian story so big? What makes this particular boy take up so much of the media's energy?

It has all to do with the upcoming election, but I just can't figure out the "SPIN" and who it will fully benefit!!!! I also believe when the Govt. and news media keep something so unimportant in the headlines, they are screwing us badly elsewhere.

John..

Wag the Dog

Its a distraction, and like His Billness' other distractions, this will backfire just like the aspirin factory and a few blown up acres in some desert.

There is a big push to alter the current US relationship with Cuba. There is no Berlin Wall here, just a few miles of ocean which now separate similar people in Florida and Havanna.

The collapse of Russia has left the little island alone and vulnerable to our own leftists who wield incredible power and chomp at the bit to reign in a potentially vibrant storehouse of chain breaking freedom culture.

This story is not about a little boy or his future or his family history. It is about political power and the struggle by the state to contain those who would deny their dominance over the individual regardless of the flag they were born under.

Hi John;

Because of the immense value of distration.

Here is a story that involoves a child (child=huge media collateral) and all the big players, and it doesn't mean anything.

Its a distraction. Most media events are. They keep your eye OFF of what is going on.

The Waco lawsuit is going to trial very soon. The Elian story has kept most of the pre-trial information out the news. Things like Janet Reno dodging having to give a deposition.

Wonder what is next?

The truth in government/politics is the Constitution. Believe it, love it, sleep it, eat it, drink it, talk it, learn it or lose it.

Just maby.........if the good folks in south Florida had resisted the JBTs, our Kommander in Heat would have declared martial law, put the peons in their place.
Just maby.........the lack of resistance screwed up their plans.

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."

Along with everything else mentioned, there is good, old fashioned political intrigue as well:

Apparently there is a tie-in with Clinton's loss of the Arkansas governorship in 1980 (?). President Carter asked then governor Clinton to harbor Cuban refugees in return for political favors. The problem was, shortly thereafter Castro allowed a flood of immigration into Florida. The political backlash tainted everyone associated with the political maneuvering, and Clinton subsequently lost the governor's office.

I'm sorry, I thought this was all about freedom and democracy. After all, we wouldn't be willing to send a child back to Nazi Germany if Hitler and his father demanded him, would we? I thought that the rule of law and fair treatment under the law and asylum from persecution and political punishment were all true. Sorry to say that they're all lies. What is important is U.S.-Cuba relations, U.S.-China relations, not the terrible human rights violations these countries have. We don't care about the people as long as we can get our sneakers cheap and good Cuban tobacco. Clinton is supporting his constituents well. China and Cuba, two communist countries, have more clout with him than the rule of law and the freedoms this country is supposed to offer.

What G-Freeman said...Clinton wants to normalize relations with Cuba.Elian got in the way.Stay tuned...film at 11..........
