Playing it safe......

Well, my closet has now reached the level of maximum occupancy, and I am in the market for a safe. For this new box to meet my parameters, it must be at a price of lesser or equal to $450, have an area for both rifles as well as hand guns, and it must be of a good quality overall. What are you're suggestions?

I bought a digital safe from walmart about 7 years ago that was around 500 but thats as close as i can get. Happy hunting!

I'd look used. $450 isn't going to get you much of a fire-resistant safe. If it's not a fire safe - it's probably not worth spending more than a good locking cabinet (like you'd get for an industrial shop).

Good luck......

Let us know how that works out...

Buy a safe without fire resistance and put 5/8" drywall in it. If you look under the fabric in the fire resistant safe it is drywall. That will save you a little. Every layer of 5/8 is about 1/2 hour of fire rating.

I outgrew two safes so I put a heavy, solid core door on my walk in closet, reinforced the door jam, then installed four dead bolt locks, two on each side. It well stop the typical smash and grab thief. The best safe well only slow someone down, if they know what you have they can get it given the time.

Watch Craigslist like someone suggested

I have seen some heavy duty rifle/gun safes on there before. Under 450 also. Give it like a month and check everyday. You will probably find something. Good luck
