Plan B, and reality checks....

It pays to have a Plan B, doesn't it? An alternative to what you're doing if the situation changes. For the purposes of personal safety, most of us have Plan Bs, even if we don't call them that.

Maybe it's a CCW, a big, noisy dog, the shotgun in the closet, the 38 Special near the bed. Maybe it's part of the mindset of the cautious. Many of us wouldn't be here if it weren't for having that Plan B,preparing for trouble, and knowing that trouble always comes, sooner or later, maybe both.

"There is no safety on Earth, just the illusion of safety".- Machiavelli

So where does preparation become paranoia?
Do you take out the garbage or check the mail only with a weapon at hand? Or do you save the firearms for occasions that may seem more fraught with peril than the normal state of things?

Yes, the first rule of gunfighting is,"Have a gun". When do we?

I had a former co worker who had even more guns than I. He remarked on occasion that he kept at least one in each room of his house.
A couple of them were full auto.

Whether his precautions were excessive is a matter of debate, He was a coward(a serious problem as he was a Correctional Officer, rank of Lt) and a toady of the worst kind. Maybe people WERE after him.

But, I digress.

Where do YOU draw the line between preparation and paranoia?

I have a CCW, but don't carry all the time. When I do, it's primary plus backup, and reloads. There's loaded, secured guns in the house, but not in every room.Nor even on each floor.

And, I'm not requesting personal info you may be uncomfortable giving. Details of my personal arrangements are nobody's business, and neither are yours.

I would like to see a discussion here about this. Thanks...

I live out in the burbs in a pretty decent neighborhood in a 2 bedroom ground floor apartment. That being said, I am not really all that concerned with an intruder in the middle of the night scenario. I do however have a loaded .45 with 10 rounds of 185grn Corbons and a Surefire D2 next to the bed. I don't have to worry about the multi level problems that most homeowners face, so I don't think that I 'need' to have a firearm in every room. Heck, I can get from one end of the place to the other is 10 steps.

Other than that, I don't have any other guns around the house. I live in one of the 19 states that don't allow CCW so I only have my wits with me when I am away from the apartment. I do train weekly at a combat pistol range where I belong to a club that practices tactical/defensive scenarios. That makes sure that when/if the time ever comes that at least I will have the mechanics down to do what may need to be done.
