Okay, got a stupid question:

The BoR's are for the entire people of the U.S. (and the world but that's another topic). The ACLU (whom I don't like but use them to make my point) sues schools for violating kids Rights, such as privacy, association, religion, illegal search/seizure, etc.. So, kids are afforded thier Rights under the BoR's.... except for the 2nd. After reading the Constitution and the BoR's, the only age factor I've seen is the 16 to 45 years of age depicting the militia (being a member). SO, do kids / children have Rights or do they not have Rights? If they have Rights, why the age limit to enjoy their Rights? Why are some Rights active at birth while others are subjected to an age? Just thinking too much for a Sunday.. it's raining and cold so I'm bored.

Okay, if the "national guard" is the militia, why don't they have 16yo's on active duty but they have "old farts" over 45 on active duty? I mean, heck, if your're going to call the militia the national guard, why don't they also abide by the age limits set thereforth? It sounds as if most people eat out of the crapper now days... cause they are full of ..... (insert proper four letter word here).

That sword has two edges.

Most societies honor an established age of majority. Prior to that age, children are the responsibility of and responsible to their parents or other designated elders. Prior to the age of majority they have few rights, mostly priviledges bestowed by and controlled by their elders.

Enter the ACLU, National Socialist party, Engels, Marx, Clinton etal. In the guise of protecting the "Rights" of the children, the control and responsibility of the parents are derrogated. Thus generating a steady supply of kindersheep.

Less government, more individual responsibility....JBS

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."

Socialists/Statists/Fascists/Communists, from Marx to the ACLU to the nut-fudge Far-Right fringe that has attached itself, limpet-like, to the once laissez faire GOP all speak strongly about the Rights of "The People" (apparently a vast, amoeba-like, lowest-common-denominator corporate entity to which they believe all of us serfs belong) which they are willing to variously bestow or defend. Apparently, however, this mindset does not allow them to grasp the simple and fundamental concept of the Rights of people; singular and small 'p'. These Rights aren't granted by any government or document; they are a simple result of human beings being independant, self-propelled moral agents. To borrow from PJ O'Rourke, there is only one basic human right; the right to do as you damn well please. With that right comes the only basic human duty; the duty to take the consequences for your actions. Boil down every legal, moral, and religious code ever propounded since the first two families of h. sapiens decided it might be fun to have next-door neighbors and it all reduces down to that.

Yet there exists in a perversely large number of my fellow humans this bizarre and occult notion that a group of people somehow, through some metaphysical alchemy, can collectively have a "Right" that any given person in that group, when considered individually, does not possess.

I shudder to think that folks with a herd-animal mentality like that and myself both belong to the same species...

Tamara, to document your soapbox-pounding :), ya really oughta read None Dare Call It Education by John A. Stormer, ISBN # 780914053149. Documents School-to-Work, Goals 2000, national history standards, and a whole bunch of other scary programs. (quite frankly, I only read half the book, then got really discouraged and put it down.)

The worst thing documented in footnotes galore is the societal shifts necessary from the time of Dewey and the Humanist Manifesto around 100 years ago, to our time, when they're just about to finish the job. All the herd mentality stuff that we dislike in the Communists is exactly what is now training the young people in our nation.

In Salt Lake City, school districts making up calendars for 2002 needed to decide whether to schedule vacation time during the Olympics or not. They decided that the children would better experience the Olympics in the classroom environment, so school will be in session then. What about the family environment??? Whether school is in session or not affects my family very little; but school officials' reasoning sends cold chills down my spine. Socalism, herd-mentality, etc.

Instead, home school.

Then those who homeschool need to also train their children in some cultural literacy to understand what their age-peers are being trained in!!! We keep making comments around our house like, "You have to remember, most folks don't know this." "You have to understand, formal logic hasn't been taught in the public schools for years, and most folks don't think this through." Etc.

A bad day homeschooling is better than a good day in the government schools.

"Soapbox pounding"? ;)

Sadly, I'm beginning to think I could kick my soapbox over and set it aflame and Mr. and Ms. Averagecitizen's response would be "Could you quiet down please? We're trying to watch Who Wants To Marry The Big Brother Of A Survivor Millionaire, here."

Tamara and S.Bryce....Thank you.

An aside..John A. Stormer is also the author of "None Dare Call It Treason". good read.

Also, for more good but sickening reading, "A Choice Not An Echo" by Phyllis Schlafly.
