Piston Powder

I have been reloading for a long time and I always knew that the burning rate for pistol and rifle powders were different. However, recently I was black powder hunting with a friend and he was shooting Pyrodex pistol powder pellets in his rifle. There was no noticeable difference when he shot but I wonder would he not be getting a lot less velocity and higher pressures? Any one had any experience with this?????

Generally you can shoot pistol powder (3F) in rifles up to .50 caliber.
However, you need to reduce the charges for the rifle to keep pressures down and experiment to find the optimum load again.
