Pistol Racks

I am thinking about getting a pistol rack or two for my gun safe. I would like to read about (and even better see pics) of some of the ones you guys have at home. Also, I have seen the holders that hang them on the inside of the door. Those maybe of interest too.

if you have carpet on the inside walls of the safe, the acorn brand velcro holsters work well

plan where you want to put them as they stick better to the carpet the first time...

they will hold a 1911 and a 6" n frame smith equally well

they run about 6 bux or so shipped in a 10 pack..

I have a half-dozen or so Versatile gun racks - or clones. They come in sizes from one gun to 10 and there is a kit to stack them. I only buy them on sale and haven't had to pay list price for one of them yet.

The best thing I did was buy one for the work bench. Not only does it cut down on the clutter, but it useful for letting guns drip dry when cleaning or rustproofing or whatever.

Had this for a few years, think I ordered it from CTD, holds 9 pistols and saves a bunch of room. Like a Wheel of Fortune for my 1911s LOL

The "Lazy Susan" holder is pretty cool but I don't know if it will fit in my safe.

The wire racks or door holsters still seem like the best option. I may go with a combination of both of them.

How strong is the Velcro that secures the holsters to the door? Also, does the weight of the guns eventually start to pull on the door's carpet and make it saggy or loose?

I drilled holes in a piece of ½” plywood and used 5” pegs made from reflective markers I bought in Lowes. JB Weld holds the pegs solidly in place. The rack goes up against the back of the left side of my safe and will hold 36 handguns of .38 cal or larger.

Can somebody post a pic of the "plate racks"?

I think there are a couple of types...

And I second the "nice Sistema" sentiment. What kind of sights are those?

Best,

Will

i like the hyskore racks, they are made of sturdy foam and will not harm finish of firearms, additional racks can also be purchased and connected together... Ive also tried the door hangers by lock down, they also work well for pistols but i use mine usually for a pistol grip pump that is too short to stand in the safe on its own

the velcro holds strong on the door, i usually have a 12ga model 870 with a pistol grip handing on the door, hasent seemed to pull away any and ive had it hanging there for bout a year now

I've used these racks from Cabelas for many yrs...built some simple shelves out of maple plywood ...nothing fancy ...

...lined the shelves, with a non-skid shelf liner ( that I found laying around the house )....and the racks keep the guns apart..they're plastic coated steel ....good heavy coating on the racks.... (so there is no steel to steel contact - between guns or ...guns to rack ) ...and easy to get one gun in and out.../ without smacking 3 or 4 guns on the way in or out ...

There are 8 3/8" barrled mod 29's S&W revolvers in these racks, 5" 1911's, ..4" S&W revolvers...a couple of .22's....etc....

the only issue I have had with the velcro ones, is not the holster, but more the carpet on the door/walls...

the first time you put the holster up, its golden..

but if you move/reposition it it takes the knap and tight weave of the carpet and loosens the fibers up.. so it does not hold as tight in that spot..and you get some sag there becuase of that..

if you have shelves/dividers in the safe, storing guns on the door may cause them to hit the dividers/shelf uprights and the door won't close..

mine has a divider about 2/3 across the width.. so I can only put
about 7 pistols on the left side of the door, none on the right..

the rest of the holsters go on the side walls..above the barrels on the long guns..to reclaim otherwise wasted space..

so as long as you plan, and keep the repositioning to a minimum, it works fine..

I have had 5" 1911's through a 8 3/8" 629 in them and they stay put..as well as smaller frames..

I do like the japlerod idea though.
and it is a nice sistema, as well as the 625 smith...

BoMar. They aren't made anymore. That style required some serious milling and you'd better get it exactly right or the thing won't stay on very long.
