Hi guys.

I am 23 years old and starting to collect guns and get into the sport of it. I had recently applied and currently waiting on my application answer for my ccw permit. I own 2 long rifles now. I really want to become an armed security gaurd untill I get though college. The question I have is that i have only 2 traffic tickets that I have paid for on time personally. My dad has spent time in jail for a felony and I currently live with him. Do you think I will get denied for that? It happend over ten years ago. I am just nurvous I spent all that money for no reason to get this ccw lisence. I really want to be able to get it because I love the sport of it and collecting. If anyone has any idea please get back to me I really appreciate you reading this .. thanks

I don't know how strict your state is on felons having access to firearms. I'm sure you are aware that your father is a "prohibited person." As such, he cannot have firearms, he cannot touch firearms, and he cannot have access to firearms. If I were you, I would be seriously thinking how you're going to respond if the issuing authority calls you up and asks how you intend to ensure that your father cannot access your firearms.

That said, apparently you already own some firearms and that hasn't been an issue. Did you buy them legally? (Don't answer that, just think about it.) Your father is the prohibited person, not you, so your right to carry should not be denied. But there are some practical issues that need to be addressed -- and, frankly, the same issues need to be addressed even if you get the carry permit.

Thanks for the reply I live in CT and of course I bought my firearms legally and I keep them locked at all times. I am very responcible when it comes to things like that. I am just scared they can deny me for that reason of my dad. I inttend on keeping my pistol locked at all times just like my other guns. I always have the keys with me so he cannot access anything. He is my father im very close to him and come from a close family. I just want to be held responcible for my own actions and own past not his you know.. I really wanna become an armed security guard to get me through school. Because i was recently laid off from the town job I had. So i saught is as an oppertunity to go to school. In the mean time i had baught a car and have alot of bills lol. So I was looking to being a certified security guard. When your armed you make more money. So I just hope I don't have to suffer for his actions.

I would get in contact with the issuing authority first before you start the process. Living with a felon could be prohibitive.

BTW, why do you want to be an armed security guard? I looked into being a Loomis employee but extremely glad I didn't after learning the risks.

It just appealed to me.. I always wanted to become a cop and everything but after spending alot of time in the hospital when my grandfather was sick i realized what a big difference nurses can do. So I then decided I wanted to do that then being a cop. Here nurses make more then cops do anyways. So being a security guard I guess gives me the oppertunity to do that while im in school. They make decent money that I can get by with while going to school. I have alot of bills and I can afford a low paying job while going to school. I need something decent. So I saw this and it caught my attention instantly because I always wanted to do something like this. I just also go home everynight feeling good about myself.

I did work for Loomis Chris. You are 110% correct!!!! Boss was/is/always will be a unadulterated flaming rectum. Small pay for a LARGE amount of responsibility Poor training and messenger concerns about safety at certain stops get brushed aside.

jbrand3,

You should research you state's law.
By bringing firearms into your father's home you may be setting him up for another felony conviction. It would depend upon the state's jurisprudence, the state's definition of what the word "possesses" means. A prosecutor could assert that since the weapons are in your father's home that he possesses them. You may become involved as well under some conspiracy analysis.

CHAPTER 952*
PENAL CODE: OFFENSES
Sec. 53a-217. Criminal possession of a firearm or electronic defense weapon: Class D felony. (a) A person is guilty of criminal possession of a firearm or electronic defense weapon when such person possesses a firearm or electronic defense weapon and (1) has been convicted of a felony, (2) has been convicted as delinquent for the commission of a serious juvenile offense, as defined in section 46b-120, (3) knows that such person is subject to (A) a restraining or protective order of a court of this state that has been issued against such person, after notice and an opportunity to be heard has been provided to such person, in a case involving the use, attempted use or threatened use of physical force against another person, or (B) a foreign order of protection, as defined in section 46b-15a, that has been issued against such person in a case involving the use, attempted use or threatened use of physical force against another person, (4) knows that such person is subject to a firearms seizure order issued pursuant to subsection (d) of section 29-38c after notice and an opportunity to be heard has been provided to such person, or (5) is prohibited from shipping, transporting, possessing or receiving a firearm pursuant to 18 USC 922(g)(4). For the purposes of this section, "convicted" means having a judgment of conviction entered by a court of competent jurisdiction.

(b) Criminal possession of a firearm or electronic defense weapon is a class D felony, for which two years of the sentence imposed may not be suspended or reduced by the court.

thanks for your help .. thats very interesting.. I didnt realize that. I am knew to the whole gun world just jsut started owning long rilfes and things. I have shot alot because my brother in law and some friends are state troopers and got me into the sport of it. So im guessing I will be denied of my pistol permit just basically off that. I was saving up and ready to buy a new house right when i got laid off now I cant afford it. I just love the sport of it and collecting. The security guard thing really appealed to me though and could use the money for it. They get paid pretty good where I live and I need something to get me through schooling.
