Pistol mishaps

Although, I'm sure most of us know better I was curious if any other members of this board have inadvertently discharged a pistol in the process of cleaning or handling it. When I was 12 years old, I stumbled upon a bizzare .32acp tilt-barrel automatic of 1920's vintage. Being the foolhardy adolecent that I was, I had neither the common sense nor inclination to keep the ammo seperated from the gun. After toying around with the pistol for quite some time, much to my suprise I ended up shooting out a 27" RCA television. Even more alarming then blasting the picture tube was the fact that the loud rapport from the pistol failed to wake anyone in the house! This allowed me enough time to fabricate a flimsy story that had something to do with me bumping into the TV. Upon awaking my parents, and enduring the steely gaze of my mother I had to come clean. I ended up having to submit my body to medical experiments (allergy/asthma studies) to raise enough cash to buy a new tube. Having narrowly averted tragity, this experiance taught me a newfound respect for firearms and I haven't had a close call since.

A .45 acp Hardball. Will penetrate 4 inches of drywall and pressboard. Ricochet off of the Brick on the other side. Come back at you and land between two pillows, 6 inches from your head. During this, it will expand to a 60 calibers. It will also, out of a Series 80 1991 do some serious damage to your left ear drum. Leaving you sensitive to noises in the High Registers for about a week. Your eyes will be very large for the next week, and you will flinch at loud noises.
Note all this will be out of a gun that you picked up, dropped the magazine, racked the slide and watched the round eject, examined the chamber to make sure it was empty. Then set it back down. You'll later unload the mag, reload the mag, pick the gun back up, rack the slide again because you ALWAYS do that with EVERY weapon you pick up no matter how many times you checked. And test the trigger pull with your "empty" weapon. The only thing that will save your stupid ass is the fact that you never, EVER point a gun at yourself or anything that might be damaged by a gun.

Nope never had a mishap.

When I was about 12 or so I had a High Standard .22 pistol. One day the annoying neighbor dog was running around our yard so I got out my pistol and shot at the dog’s feet to scare it away. It worked and the dog ran off faster than my bullet. But then I was standing there feeling all cool and smooth like Clint Eastwood and so I spun the gun on my finger. Well those old .22 High Standards had a light trigger pull and that gun went off. I was wearing a pair of tight jeans and that bullet smacked the leg of my jeans right next to my calf, but didn’t break skin. I froze solid and my eyes opened so big that the American rebels would have shot me from 600 yards. Now I don’t even spin squirt guns.

I'm old and deceitful.

Not a firearm but was fooling around with a really cool pellet rifle when I was about 12 years old. When you pumped this rifle up 3 times it'd go through both sides of a steel garbage can. On this particular occasion it occurred to me that it would be ever so neat to pump it up about 7 times and shoot a golfball, which was laying on the ground about 10 feet from me. Hit the golfball dead center and the pellet ricochet'd right back at me hitting me in the stomach right below my belly button. Had to dislodge it with my scout knife and emptied about half a bottle of bactine into the wound.

Didn't tell the family, as dad would surely have taken the rifle away from me.... but never ever shot a golfball again.

Yeah, spinning revolvers is bad news. While we were living back in Indiana there was an article in the paper about a guy who was spinning his DA S&W .44 and killed himself...Spinning a single action is one thing, but a DA adds another twist. I wouldn't reccommend spinning ANY gun. Bad habit.

Well I never spin a gun if it's loaded, and I always check anytime I pick one up. Really.
Only mishap I had was when as a younger guy my uncle let me try out two 1911's (military surplus). I thought it would be really cool to shoot 'em both at the same time..but you have to rack the slide first...at which point one is cocked ... then because you don't have a holster and there's snow on the ground and you're stupid you try to cock the other one with out putting the safety on ... racking a slide with a very used single action in the other hand... BANG.. but a 45 bullet into the ground near my feet.... that got the adreanline going. :0
