Pistol Laser Sight Thing?

Someone offered to sell me one of those laser sight things for a good price. I can't see what use it could ever have, but it looks like it might be something that's fun to play with. Is there any advantage to having one of these things on a handgun, or would it be more of a hinderance? I feel that it might encourage bad habits and would probably be a problem when selecting a holster.

I wouldn't want one for defense... BUT to learn to have a steady hand and to learn to squeeeeeeeeze off a steady shot... They are an incredible training aid. You can really see just how well you hold and how well you squeeze (or jerk) the trigger.

I used one and loved it for a year or so with dry-fire caps and improved my shooting a LOT even at my ripe old age; with foggy eyes and shaky hands. (Heck the whole body shakes)

I've got a LaserMax on my G23. It's surprisingly accurate, and makes for a very intimidating sidearm (as if the business end of a .40 caliber barrel isn't enough, it puts a little red dot on the bad guy's forehead). It's also a blast at the range, and since the laser is internal it doesn't affect holster selection at all.

Would I use it if I was in a gunfight? I'm not sure. Probably not, but if I really wanted to make my point without shooting someone, that'd be one way to do it.

I think the benny of the Lasermax system or the CrimsonTrace (sp?) laser grips in not just in the possible intimidation factor, but I can ignore it in my daily use/presentation (no bulky attachment), and use the sights for 99.99% of my shooting, but if I ever NEED a PRECISE aimpoint (the head of the guy holding my wife/kid), I can steady down, half-breath, slack out, laser dot-on, BANG.

I added one to my Taurus because I thought it would help with muscle memory for point and shoot. I had to have a custom holster made for it for carry. It was about 150 bucks, not the cheap ones. The really cheap ones don't work at all. The ones that are 100 bucks or less. They don't hold the adjustment. Every shot bounced it around internally so it never held zero. I still can't see sepending 300-400 bucks for a laser sight so I can use normal holsters, but maybe when they come out for the taurus, or the cz's I will change my mind.

never had one. But instead of the forehead I'd place the dot on the goblins retina.

Much more intimidating that way or so I think. ;)
