Pistol Lanyards

Has anyone ever used a pistol lanyard as a weapons retention device?

If so. what are the pros and cons of using one?

I recently purchased a Kel-tec P32, and I noticed on their web site they sell a neck lanyard to enable the P32 to be carried around the neck. Since it weighs under 7oz (I think), and is very thin, this might not be too bad an option. It wouldn't be quick to get at, but its something to consider. Anyway, I doubt that this was the lanyard option you had in mind, but it might be a little more practical than the traditional type.

Seems a shame that they aren't used. I would want one if I was going into the woods for any time. Seem like good ideas.

Used one while riding a horse a couple of times.
Experimented with one to help brace pistol when target shooting.
Don't use regularly ... just playing. Seemed to work ok but I wouldn't use one for self defense carry. I'd be paranoid of it snagging on something when I needed the pistol.

I like lanyard loops on my 1911's, they can be used to open bottles that don't have screw off tops. (Partly eject the magazine, lay the magazine on the cap, hook the loop under the edge of the cap and lift away. One of the many things that I have learned in my life. :D ) They also make a nasty cut if you should thunk someone between the eyes with the butt of your 1911.

As to lanyards, I have used them on canoe trips and they have prevented the loss of a pistol or two when events lead to me being upside down in the river. I have used wrist lanyards to keep me and the 1911 attached when sleeping in an environment that was not condusive to long life unless armed.

Lanyards are good for sleeping/wepon retention... ever tried to find the hand-gun under your pillow when startled in the middle of the night? That might be a practical use for "paranoid" folks... ( just remember that it is not an "inhalor" :) )
