Checkered or uncheckered?

For me, I definitely prefer uncheckered. I've been buying several of the Hogue wood grips, and I really never have cared for the sandpaper like feel of checkered grips. They seem to be more expensive and popular, but I just prefer the look and feel of smooth wood.

What about you all?

I agree. Although I've never shot extensively with any wood grips, I like the way the uncheckered grips look.

Shoeless

I really can't work up a strong preference either way.

As long as they're made of dead trees or animal bits, I'm happy.

Just as long as I can hang on to the pistol w/ ease & they look good, it doesn't matter.
Remember, it's not how good you are, but how good you look! ;)

Favorite kind of wood?

Another question: what is your favorite kind of wood on your semi-auto pistol grips?

For the Hogue names, go to this page. If you like a wood that is not offered through Hogue, specify what wood that is....

For me, I really like the Coco Bolo grips. They look great on both blued and stainless steel framed handguns.

Uncheckered looks better, but the smooth wood makes my hand sweat and sometimes I can feel blisters start to form. Checkering doesn't do that.

For me the worst is checkered grips with finely checkered front and back straps. It feels like I am gripping a file.

For concealed carry especially, I like smooth grips. The checkering might grab onto my shirt, causing printing. I also don't need to file my skin.

Hard plastic grips work well also. The pebbling/stippling works will and doesn't seem to grip.
