Pistol grip for Marlin 1895

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen an aftermarket pistol grip for a Marlin 1895? I have an 1895 GBL in 45-70 and I pulled the stock off to clean the action and while I had it off I thought "man, this would be cool if it had just a pistol grip on it". There seems to be enough frame there.

Just to be clear, the rifle stock on my 1895 DOES have a pistol grip cut into it, as opposed to being a "straight stock". This is not the kind of pistol grip I am talking about. I am talking about JUST a pistol grip - as in nothing to put against your shoulder - as in taking my 1895 and making a long-barreled pistol out of it.

Not practical, but it would look cool as heck IMHO.

Wrong. It would not be cool at all.

50% correct. Not practical. It would also look like a steaming pile of cow dung.

Any more questions? :)

It wouldn't be illegal as long as the overall length is still 26". I am not sure what its overall length would be with a pistol grip, but based on photos I would guess about 28-30", even with a simple rounded-off grip rather than a Mare's Leg style grip. With a Mare's leg grip it would definitely be well over 26".

So it might be ugly and pointless, but it wouldn't be illegal.

For instance, I have a Rossi R92 with 16" barrel. I could easily put the "stock" from my Ranch Hand (legally a pistol) onto the R92 and it would still be about 28" long and therefore totally legal.

However, I can NOT put the stock from my R92 onto the Ranch hand because then it would be a rifle with a 12" barrel and therefore illegal.

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes good sense to me.

If you really wanted to do it, I imagine that you could get a pistol grip rifle stock from a 336 and carve it down. A curved lever would be required, too. Can't see any usefulness (or fun, to be honest) in it, but you wouldn't be making any permanent alterations and ruining the rifle. Shooting a .45-70 from the hip that's too long and heavy to support correctly sounds like a good way to get a nose full of hammer spur or front sight to me.

A very counter-productive idea.
The result wouldn't handle recoil well at all (as in- you would not like it & might actually harm some body parts), and accuracy would be much reduced.
As a wallhanger YOU might find it an interesting piece of "art", but as a gun, senseless.

And no- nobody makes such a pistolgrip for a Marlin 1875 .45-70.
