Pistol for the elderly

Whats stupid, the that "gun" or allowing the elderly to be armed???

I'm not one to tell someone they shouldnt have a certain gun (although I do like more conventional guns), BUT I'll be the last guy standing defending the rights of elderly the same rights of gun ownership as the rest of us.

What is elderly anyway? I'm 61, at times my kids and grandkids tell me I'm older the dirt. I shoot bullesye with a gentalmen thats 87, I just wish I could live long enough to be as good as he is.

I dont remember an Age Requirement in the 2 Amendment. The elderly are easy pray, I believe whole hardly in allowing them to arm themselves.

I like the ease of use for the weaker who might need this. It looks to me as if it is single shot though, which i don't like. I think that it might be better if it were a repeater of some sort. Not good to think of this as a way some people might take their lives like the one fella mentioned in the video. Good to know that there are inventors out there focusing on the populations need for a variety of guns.

Better than nothing I suppose. However, looks like it could be the impetous for some accidents and bad press (which we need none of) if not handled correctly.

3rd post on the topic on TFL but whos counting? It is just a computer image...no prototypes and they want your money!!!

It's a modernization of an old design. Stupid? Not at all. Then handicapped and the elderly have just as much right to defend themselves any anyone else. And due to the possible inability to physically defend themselves I see this as a great idea. The fact that it could be paid for by medicare is the best.

stupid???? I THINK NOT

it looks to me that i could have a better desine but other than that. I think its a fantastic idea. My great grandpa carred a 357 with him till the day he died i dont think he could shoot it but it did the trick. and he carred it in the open. but hay he was a crazy old coot to begin with. but god do i miss that man

I think I read today somewhere that the FDA put the kybosh on this and wont consider it a medical device coverable by Medicare. I'll see if I can find that link.

How stupid it is really is decided by who your giving it to. It wouldn't be stupid to give it to an old man (around 90 years old) who can't walk and is very weak. Although, it wolud be stupid if you gave it to a guy like my 93 year old grandfather, who runs as fast as I do and does 100 push-ups every moning! :p

"Medical Device" -- That's not going to fly. It's a "firearm". A "medical device" is allowed on airplanes through secure areas -- like Federal buildings.

If you're going to design a firearm for defense for the "elderly" it needs to be two handed grip, semi auto, and high capacity . . . because they're going to miss with that first shot squeezed out of their palm.

You could build a semi-auto shotgun into a wheelchair, put a "heads up" aiming device on it. I'm sure the nursing homes, hospices, and airline security would just LOVE to see those become eligible for Medicare.

elderly's gun

I particularly liked the Bimbo who stated she didn't think seniors should have it because they couldn't even operate a remote control. I am sure she is an expert and has law enforcement or military experience to back up her inane opinion. But what else is new regarding the expert opinion of the media dummies?

Elderly people because they have largely been respondsible members of society, have cash and also because they are by and large physically way inferior to the criminals that now staulk them, need to have access to handguns.

If handguns can be tailored for them to be safer and more effective for them to use,I am all for it.

My grandpa and grandma had a shotgun in their house all their lives.

Completely misenterpreted

Did I ever say arming the elderly was stupid....no...
I said allowing a firearm to fall under the same classification as as a medical device (I.E. Inhaler) thus allowing it to be PRESCRIBED BY A DOCTOR....is a stupid idea. I dont care who you are or how old you are I see no situation where an elderly person needs to carry a handgun on an airplane. I can see a million reasons why.

P.S. The FDA agrees this idea was shot down by them a few days ago. :)

being allowed by medicare/cade i have NO PROBBLEM with that but i do agree with them on a plane. ON A PLANE I THINK NOT but as far as arming them its a great idea let a few muggers get shot by a hand gun that he never saw in the hand of some "poor defenceless old lady in a wheel chair" I CANT WAIT TO SEE THAT ON THE SEVEN O'CLOCK NEWS THAT WOULD BE THE FUNNEST THING ID HAD EVER SAW
