Pinning the grip safety

I previously posted about inheriting my grandfather's Airweight Centennial (mod 42). I wasn't particularly fond of the "lemon squeezer" grip safety, so I tracked down a Tyler T-grip adapter to give me a little more leverage. As I removed the skinny grip panels, a tiny pin fell out. The pin hole in the frame didn't appear to serve any purpose, until I noticed another tiny hole further up in the backstrap part of the grip frame. When the grip safety is pressed, it lines up with the hole, so that inserting the pin holds the safety.

Only in the pre-litigious days of old would a manufacturer provide the means to eliminate an unneeded safety feature. I don't see any disadvantage to pinning the grip safety. Does anybody else?
