Pincus Course Review

I am new to this forum....

-I had the fortune several weeks ago to attend the course, Combat Focus Shooting (CFS)/Advanced Pistol Handling (APH) conducted by Rob Pincus at Blackwing Shooting Center in Delaware, Ohio. Andy Loeffler, from the Blackwing staff, and Chris Benavidez, from Illinois, assisted. It is amazing to me how much of the material is still fresh in my mind….it really sunk in.

-If you do not have a military or LEO background (I do not), do not be intimidated or reluctant to enroll in a Rob Pincus sponsored class if you have the opportunity. Rob provides constructive and appropriate feedback for all skill levels of the participants. He encourages, values, and respects participants’ questions. His attention to safety is paramount throughout the course.

-Here are some of the takeaway topics from random memory (in no particular order) that I have from this 3-day CFS/APH course:

Reliability of your pistol – you will shoot 1200+ rounds
Relative merits of different handgun models and calibers
The body’s natural reaction to a “Dynamic Critical Incident,” and the corresponding requisite handgun presentation for self defense, i.e., proper presentation from various positions
The importance of “footwork”/lateral movement
Shooting one hand, both strong and support hand
Use of magazines and types of reloads
Shot groupings, and the balance of speed and precision
Malfunctions and hands (or hand) on clearing
Type of sights and when to use
Combat/self defense shooting and drills versus sport
Practice drills
Value of a training partner

This is just a quick summary of my thoughts. I would highly recommend Rob Pincus’ new book and video. In fact, his entire line of instructional material is excellent. I plan to enroll in additional classes. My reason for writing this is that fellow shooters may benefit, as I have.

I took the 2 day Combat Focus Shooting back in 2010.

I have recommended Rob's classes ever since. Well worth every penny.

His book and DVD series are high quality as well.
