Pietti 1851 Navy .44 nipple thread size??? What is the thread size on these nipples? M6X75?? I assume it will be metric being made overseas...but the manual that came with it doesn't say. Thanks for the help! :)

Well...I saw on one website that older Italian might be M6X.75 and newer Italian might be M5.5X9... I could look for a tap and see if it fits but both of these seem to be odd sizes...
Any suggestions? Thanks...

M6x0.75. Nothing odd about it, that's a very common metric thread.

There is no metric thread standard for M5.5x0.9; it's actually SAE 12x28.

If...

....there had to be something odd about it, it would be that it is National Fine rather than National Course.

Go to Home Depot and buy a number 12 screw and you get National Course.

Nipples

I had the same problem with my Piettas 60's,58 and Starr. The Nipples would go in or out very difficult right from the start to the finish. Hard enough that I thought they were crossed. I read some where online ,possibly this forum, that Pietta uses a die and tap that is not finished. Exactly what that means I don't know, maybe slightly under size or perhaps a little rougher finish to make threads a bit tighter to prevent loosening. I got a tap and die set from a place in Brooklyn ,did all my nipples and cylinders and never had another problem.
My piettas are less than 5 years old and the thread size is 6x75

That's good to know that the newer Piettas are 6X.75. I wanted to order some better nipples and there was no info listed on which size to get. I ordered the 6X.75.
Someone else mentioned that most walk-in hardware stores have the 6X1 tap but they had to special order the 6X.75.
Thanks again...
