Pietta wedge question

My buddy has an 1860 Pietta snubby that has been sitting in the box for 5 years and he never knew how to take it apart. We didn't have to pound as hard as others have had to to get it out, but now it doesn't want to go back in. Anybody had this problem. What do you think? Just beat on it?

A quick remedy is a sharp whack with a 5 lb ball peen :D

But, seriously,

Sometimes you need to fiddle with them a little to go back. The nub on the end of the spring may be hitting the slot in the barrel on the opposite side not allowing easy seating. A few light taps with a plastic headed hammer or the butt of a screwdriver should do the trick
