Although I only saw these available new in France, perhaps the Thunderer grips can be special ordered from EMF, Pietta, VTI or from the French seller.

I have the 51 but swapped the grips with a pepperbox. I got a .36 cylinder and sheriff barrel for the snubby as well, so it's .44 snubby or .36 sheriff.

In another video, Mike compared the velocity and muzzle energy of different length 1860 barrels loaded with 30 grains of Goex 3F and a round ball:

8" barrel - 882 fps - 242 ft. lbs.
5.5" barrel - 805 fps - 201 ft. lbs.
3" barrel - 550 fps - 94 ft. lbs. [about equal to a .25 acp]

The 1860 snubnose should probably be loaded with 777 and more of it if considered using for self-defense purposes.

I have the Pietta 1860 snub with the birdshead grip. Beautiful pistol, high polished blue, great wood, I haven't fired it yet, just like to hold it and look at it. I have pics of a BBQ rig holster I would like to have made for it. Totally for show.

I believe I would try Swiss 3f and a short swc about 200 grains. Or maybe make my own snubby with a 4-4.5” tube and give that a try. I’m big enough @ 6’2” and 205# that I can probably conceal something like that...

Pietta already makes a 5-1/2" Sheriff's model. Not a snubnose, but neither is a 4-inch.

I have two of the 5.5” 1860’s. One is a Navy Arms (Uberti made) that I’ve had since 1969, the other is a 2nd Generation Colt. I’m interested in the 4” tube because it might be a little easier to carry while offering a little more power and accuracy than the 3” snub. But who am I trying to kid, mostly because it’s fun to fart around with this stuff...
