Pietta LeMat query

Can anyone tell me how ro get the shotgun barrel out of a Pietta LeMat? I know it's supposed to screw out but this one won't budge.
P.S. It's a new pistol.

It really does unscrew. Sometimes easily. I found that out when I was unscrewing the rifled barrel from the shotgun/center pin and it came unscrewed too. I suspect you just need a bit more torque.

It may be difficult the first time you unscrew the barrel. I carefully mounted the barrel in a vise with leather protecting the barrel and unscrewed the frame. You have to be gentle or you can over tighten and dent the barrel, just go slow. Put some anti-seize on the threads when you re-install the barrel.

i tried once and just could not get mine off, but i'm not sure i was twisting in the correct direction... it should be "lefty loosey" correct ? to remove, twist clockwise.. mine wouldn't budge.

another question: does removing this barrel also pull the breech plug with it or do they seperate ?

there's an entire chapter on the lemat in a book i have ("antique firearms: assembly/disassembly") with some nice pictures but very little text.. great if you already know what to do.

It is a right hand thread (yes, 'lefty-loosey').

Go to Amazon.com and buy Percussion Pistols and Revolvers, History, Performance and Practical Use by Cumpston (the mec above) and Bates. The LeMat is covered in Chapter 24. Excellent book.

Turn counter clockwise to remove. There is no breech plug. The center barrel nipple threads into the recoil shield and there is a passage in the recoil shield to the center barrel.

You can use some spray cleaner like gunblaster, carb clean or brake clean to spray out this passage with out removing the center barrel. These types of spray cleaners can damage the wood finish so be sure the grips are off.

Thanks, guys I think I'm going to have to shoot it without being able to remove that barrel (the owner says it's OK anyway).
Mykeal I have that book - an interesting read but let down by the small photographs and even smaller captions, particularly as they are in Gothic script.
