Pictures of my Garand, other news

Just got an IAI M1 Carbine tonight. Wanted that for a long time.
Unfortunately, I have already got one other gun from the same time period, the Springfield-made "shortie" Garand ( http://dd-b.net/nolegv/newphotos/snaps ). I recognize that the Garand is a fine design, but I am not all that fond of it and I am not a cometent rifleman. Between the rifle, 880 rounds of ammo and 120 chargers, I have almost $1K tied up in the package.

I am thinking of letting it go, preferably to a TFLer or someone I know locally. What do you think, would letting it go for what I paid for it make sense for both me and the buyer? I am not putting it into FOR SALE forum as I am not sure yet...and Michelle is in favor of keeping it.

Oleg,

Personally, I'd keep the Garand if it came down to a choice. I regret getting rid of my Garand. On the other hand, I regret getting rid of my M1 carbine. Hell, I regret getting rid of every firearms I've gotten rid of. Made a rule a couple of years back when I realized that... I sell or trade houses, cars, etc. for firearms. When I get a firearm I keep it until death do us part. I'm very particular about what I buy. As a result, I've regretted getting rid of what I've gotten rid of.

My advice is to keep them both.

My advice is to keep them both and buy more ammo. Then practice until you ARE a competent rifleman.

I have evaluated my finances and found them to be in poor shape. However, I have adopted a rule for the next few months to avoid *any* nonessential purchase over $15. Flowers and chocolate for the GF are exempted. Used books tend to be under $15. I have enough ammo to stay in pra ctice and .22 ammo is cheap. I will be shooting a lot of .22 rifle int he next few months.

That set-up allows me to keep all the gun I bought. Pity I can't get more, but I will have a hard time learning so many different designs anyway.

I know what you mean about keeping guns forever (or giving them to friends in preference to selling). The only guns I sold were upgraded with better versions and those I do not regret. I'd rather not start the trend now.

Oleg,

Your link in the original message was misspelled. (A 'n' was placed in front of your name.)

Excellent photos by the way.
