Hello, this is my new pietta 1851 civilian, i bought one a few weeks ago and had problems with it [loose cylinder, loose wedge, frame pins fell out] so cabelas sent me a new one, when it arrived i carefully looked it over and found some blems on the trigger guard and back strap, i changed them out but keep the new grips, i also keep my old barrel since it has a higher front sight installed, it is now complete and shoots dead on at 25 yards, soon i will have a range report with pictures, thanks for looking rich

pghrich: Good evening. I have a question Sir: The trigger guard on your brand NEW 1851. Is it chrome or nickel plated? Reason I asked. I looked at one of these at Cabela's two weeks ago. When I asked the counter person the same questiion. I got a shrug of his shoulder. Thus I took it as >He didn't know.

thanks. S/S

Hello; i am 99% sure it is not chrome or silver its probably nickel; the finish on my replacement civilian had a dirty mark on it and when I tried to rub it off it turned kinda blue; the finish on my old defective civilian is perfect even after many cleaninngs; rich

Help me to understand pghrich. Cabela's gave you a replacement weapon without asking for the original to be returned? If that were the case I'd say you Sir are indeed very lucky._:)

I mailed the defective gun back to cabelas yesterday, i originally called cabelas for replacement parts and Diane [from cabelas] suggested to send me a whole new gun and she told me i could send the defective one back after i receive the replacement one so i took the best from both and made one great gun, rich

I could look at a million photos of 1851 Navys...

...And when someone showed me the million and first photo, I would still say, "Dang, Thats a purdy pistol."

Purdy is a great description,i can't take my eyes off it, i even set it beside me when i'm watching tv at night with the wife, she thinks i'm a little strang, rich

Thats very cool rich, you lucky dog! Ive had a few and handled many MANY others besides the 51, the 51 is STILL the best looking, working and feeling revolver ever.

Hello, i can't help but think when i handle both my 1851's [albeit 44cal but still feel the same] that Wild Bill felt the same way, kinda cool don't you think, rich
