Pics of my Mossberg 930

I have had my new Mossberg 930 for almost two months now.

I have put over 3,000 round through it, everything from 3" "Magnum" turkey loads to 2-3/4" 7/8 oz "low-brass" target loads.

This gun is amazing, it is well balanced, hits where I point it, and has not mis-fired or misfed yet!!

I currently have a 20GA Wingmaster, a Winchester M37 12GA, an old Belgium-made Browning A5 12GA, and an OLD Ithaca sxs (wall-hanger), as well as a newer Mossberg 535. The 930 is by far one of the best shooting shotguns I have ever used.

I researched this gun for a long time before I bought it, and I haven't been able to find any negative posts or comments.

They also have a new version with an 18" barrel for HD....hmm

Another PLUS is it is............ MADE IN THE USA!!

Man ive really been thinking about an auto lately. My only worry being jams. Event though my friggin 870 PUMP jams 1 out of 25! Looks like you have a nice boom stick there......Good to hear she'll eat anything you thorw at her! Maybe I should add this one to my list of autos to research. Ill bet it would look slick in home defense trim.....come to think of it, I have NEVER seen an auto tricked out for hd before...........off to gunbroker with me!

If your 870 jams 1 of 25, something is wrong. It shouldnt jam 1 in 500. Are you shout stroking it? I would send it back to remington or an gunsmith to be looked at.

I rack it hard but the action locks up and wont let me eject the spent shell and feed the next. I have to slam the butt on the ground to get it to open sometimes. I wonder, could it be the crappy wally world #8 target loads that ails me? Wow sorry to hijack your thread buddy.....

ps...just put the regular stock back on and I dont think ill EVER go back to pgo!

It's an Express, isn't it? Mine has been to the shop twice for that same thing. I can't remember what got replaced, and the paperwork is long gone. I have a Wingmaster that has been bullet-proof since 1981. It has never failed. I have an Express that has needed repairs twice in less than five years. Go figure

Yup, shes an express magnum. Dammit I liked this shotgun too. Oh well, off to the pawnshop for a trade on my bushy AR I guess. I Refuse to mess with a weapon that has issues so screw the warranty or gunsmithing its gone. Id better hurry up and get that AR before congress wakes up!

WOW!! Never heard of an 870 jamming like that. Usually it's when people use them Aguila minishells. As far as the Mossberg in the OP. Pretty sweet looking semi-auto. The only experience with semi-autos I had was with a Remington 11-87 and a Browning Gold 10 gauge. Bet the Mossberg would be good. My Mossberg 500 is awsome has never failed me. And I have the perfect trap scores to prove it. :D Got to work on my doubles though.

Yeah I think Mossberg puts out a good product. I really like my 500, heck of a gun for the $379 I spent on it. I would certainly never hesitate to buy another one.

My 500 is totally dependable. The only time it broke... I broke it. Dropped it in the snow from up in a tree. I took the barrel off and banged it against the stock to knock the snow out of everything. Broke the forestock in the process. It still worked fine, but I replaced it for about 12 bucks.

Supercheap birdshot loads sometimes need a stout pump to cycle. Also, I've seen shooters pulling back on the forend when firing. Make sure you've got a firm grip on the forend; and if you're going to push in any direction, push away from you until you fire and want to pump. I've heard it referred to as Push-Pull because you are pulling back into your shoulder with your firing hand, and pushing away from you with the forend hand. After you fire, rack that forend with authority and resume the push-pull.

When using high or standard quality loads, like Winchester Power Point 1700fps 1oz slugs, I've never had a FTF/FTE over several thousand rounds. If either of my 870's ever jam, I'll be worried and wanting to fix it asap. This is a firearm that should operate like clockwork with dependable ammo, especially since I keep it clean and lubricated after use.

i have heard afew problems with 870's, but with the number they have been putting out for what 50 years now you can expect some quality controll issues. Generally speaking i dont own a 870, my uncle does. I don't like the "feel" of it.

But all the mossberg products i own and have shot have been solid. Even my 835 witch has put out about 2000 rounds, about half of those are from this year alone.

My other mossberg, the silver reserve has been awesome other then not opening it up with authority a few times, atleast not enough to reset the firing pin it has been flawless. It balances very well for me and with the choke tubes i have in it now itll run 20/25 in trap almost every time, atleast when i do my part.

Other mossberg's we have shoot very well too from my dads 835 that has had probably a tad under 1000 rounds in it, to my mothers 500 bantom 20 that has had about 250 rounds thru it also havent missed a beat. I think i have had 1 stiff ejection with my 835, 2 shells that didnt want to eject proper. 1 hull had a bad primer the other night in my silver reserve so that didnt fire, but thats not bad out of the 1600 rounds i've put thru that too.

The problem with the 870 is a combination of a roughly polished chamber and aluminum base cartridges. The Express guns do not have a fine polish in the chamber, and the aluminum base shells are roughter than bras, and expand more when fired. When these two are combined, there are often problems. Its an issue that can be fixed with five minutes and a brake cylinder hone.
